Historia
With its brilliant and brutal portrayal of the Corleone family, The Godfather burned its way into our national consciousness. This unforgettable saga of crime and corruption, passion and loyalty continues to stand the test of time, as the definitive novel of the Mafia underworld. A #1 New York Times bestseller in 1969, Mario Puzo's epic was turned into the incomparable film of the same name, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture. It is the original classic that has been often imitated, but never matched.

Attention Grabbing and Well Written
Revisado: 03-14-19
Out of the 10 books i've listened to, this is definitely the one that caught my attention and excited me the most. The way the book is written, made it like watching a movie. I like the way the author describes how the characters interpret the body language and words of someone they are speaking with, that was overall really interesting. The voices of each character are distinct and spot on.
If you've seen the movie before, this isn't much of a spoiler (If not maybe don't read this paragraph), The most exciting part of the book was from the beginning up to the part where Michael shoots the cop and Sollozzo (I'd say this is the climax). Then from there it tapers off a little, but is still exciting, it veers off from the main plot and begins on side stories. Towards the back end of the book, the events seemed a little rushed as compared to the first half of the book, but it was needed because it was over a much longer time period. The book finishes off great.
Overall, if you're looking for a book to pass time in the car and keep your attention, you've found the right one. It didn't just feel like reading a fictional novel, it felt like I was learning something too.

Historia
Moneyball reveals a quest for something as elusive as the Holy Grail, something that money apparently can't buy: the secret of success in baseball. The logical places to look would be the giant offices of major league teams and the dugouts. But the real jackpot is a cache of numbers collected over the years by a strange brotherhood of amateur baseball enthusiasts: software engineers, statisticians, Wall Street analysts, lawyers, and physics professors.

Gave me a good understanding of analytics
Revisado: 05-20-18
I really liked this book. I watched the movie first, then listened to the audio about a year later. The way I would describe it is that the movie is more of a story, with the analytics presented as the background to the story, while the book is more of an in depth explanation of analytics, the origin of it, and why it should be implemented, while the story of the 2002 A's is presented as the background to this explanation.
Before reading this book, I didn't understand the craze about analytics, and the way baseball is now played frustrated me. After reading this book I now understand why small ball is going away, and the reasoning behind the "station to station" way offenses are currently being managed. It's not that I totally agree with analytics now, but now I see both sides of the argument (Old school vs analytics) and I see the game in a different light.
The book was written in a really entertaining way, and the narrator was a good fit.

Historia
This best-selling, highly-acclaimed account is a hilarious but scathing baseball tell-all. After being voted the 1977 American League Cy Young Award winner, Sparky Lyle was rewarded for his efforts by being benched. The Yankees, a leader of free agency, signed Goose Gossage as their closer. Things only went downhill from there and the 1978 season turned out to be one of controversy, firings, fights, and acrimony. In short, it was a zoo.

Interesting to learn about all the players
Revisado: 05-20-18
It's a good read, interesting to learn about the entire team on a personal level. The way the books set up, Lyle goes day by day through the 1978 season, it was a journal that he wrote during the season. Definitely a unique way of telling the story. But the way the books written, with repeats of thoughts from day to day, and the fine details of specific games, I think it would be a better read than a listen (Even though Sparky is the narrator).
Overall though, if you're looking to learn about the inter workings of this team, from Steinbrenner, to Martin, to Jackson, this is the perfect book for you. I wasn't around to watch this team, so all I knew about them were the ways the media portrayed them, and what i've heard from others. I feel like Reggie Jackson is portrayed in an overall good light, and I would never have known the real Reggie if I hadn't read this book.

The New York Yankees. The Boston Red Sox. For a hundred years, no two teams have locked horns as fiercely or as frequently, and no two seasons frame the colossal battle more perfectly than 2003 and 2004. Now, with incredible energy and access, leading sports columnist Mike Vaccaro chronicles the history of the greatest rivalry in sports, and the two stunning American League Championship Series that define a century of baseball.

Solid entertaining way to learn about the history
Revisado: 04-19-18
What did you love best about Emperors and Idiots?
The narration was perfect for the tone of the book. He spoke as if blood was going to be shed at any moment. It kept me engaged and made big moments thrilling.
What did you like best about this story?
I liked learning all the fine details about the big moments in the history of the rivalry. This book really emphasized all the big moments in the history and broke down games that lead up to them. I watched nearly every inning of the 2003 and 2004 ALCS however, I was so young that I don't remember all the details that led up to the big highlights in those series. Vaccaro goes through all the specifics that led up to every big highlight in these series, and it's awesome revisiting everything.
Any additional comments?
The main story line of the book is the 2003 and 2004 seasons. Vaccaro breaks down everything about the two teams from 2003 to the end of 2004, and his way of teaching about the history dating back to 1904 was through tangents that stemmed from something that happened during those two seasons that reminded him of things that happened in the past. It was an odd way of informing everyone of the history, and often times made you annoyed because you just wanted to hear what was going to happen next in the main story line (The 03 and 04 seasons), but it's a difficult thing to write about chronologically, while keeping readers entertained. I'm not sure if this is the most effective way to teach everyone about the history of the rivalry, but it makes sense that he did, since this book was written the year after the sox won.
The book pretty much pitied the Red Sox all the way to the final few pages, when the Sox won game 7 in 04. I feel like the pity was played up a bit much at times, but if this is the way the team was really perceived by the majority, I have no problem with it, I was just looking for the most accurate history, and I wasn't around for most of the history myself.

Historia
Since their breakthrough championship season in 1923, when Yankee stadium opened, the New York Yankees have been baseball’s most successful, decorated, and colorful franchise. Home to Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Berra, Mantle, Jackson, and Mattingly; and later Torre, Jeter, Rivera, and Rodriguez, the team has been a fixture in our national consciousness.
