Very Useful, but could still be better
Revisado: 11-11-20
I’ve run a couple of startups. And I’m now considering a run at a more traditional manufacturing business. Davidson rightly identifies that this book is NOT for tech startups, but instead for all the rest. And that’s great. He goes through lots of examples of businesses, and shows how they’ve all thrived by embracing what he calls the passion economy. It’s engaging and informative.
But this book lacks a few things. First, it’s best suited for existing companies that are experiencing reduced revenue due to competition with China or other low-cost manufacturers. If you’re one of those, pick this book up. But it’s not as well suited for mew companies seeking to find a path to successfully sell real A W

Historia
Petros Papachristos devotes the early part of his life to trying to prove one of the greatest mathematical challenges of all time: Goldbach's Conjecture, the deceptively simple claim that every even number greater than two is the sum of two primes. Against a tableau of famous historical figures-among them G. H. Hardy, the self-taught Indian genius Srinivasa Ramanujan, and a young Kurt Godel-Petros works furiously to prove the notoriously difficult conjecture.

Delightful, moving, intelligent story
Revisado: 10-13-16
Ultimately, this is a human story, worth reading for the drama alone. The drama is an intellectual one, but no less potent for that. The reader will also gain a nice view of the major characters and issues of early 20th century mathematics. Altogether, not a truly great work but a very good one, entertaining and edifying while highlighting a set of characters and concerns rarely involved in literature.

Story with depth, but best for young adult
Revisado: 10-26-15
I think this was written to communicate in a genuine, non-judgmental way with a 15 year old boy. And not any 15 year old boy -- one who likes alternative music, fantasy books and role playing games. I was Mir our Lee's that kind of boy at 15, so the story still resonated. But most of the insights are more set for that mindset, and it's not where I'm at anymore. also a bit rambling. Still, a good look at what it means to live out your life in the shadow of action made at a time when you thought consequences were for losers.

A beautiful book. It reminds me of Proust or Fellini's Amacord, but is much clearer than either. Certainly one of the finest recent novels I've read.

In a Tokyo suburb, a young man named Toru Okada searches for his wife’s missing cat—and then for his wife as well—in a netherworld beneath the city’s placid surface. As these searches intersect, he encounters a bizarre group of allies and antagonists. Gripping, prophetic, and suffused with comedy and menace, this is one of Haruki Murakami’s most acclaimed and beloved novels.

Strange, beautiful novel, unlike anything I've ever read. A missing girl, a missing cat, a metaphysical hotel, a man-skinning Russian and the water. Rich with surreal detail, yet captivating. allegorical yet strangely human.

Historia
At once a powerful evocation of his early life in Harlem and a disturbing examination of the consequences of racial injustice to both the individual and the body politic, James Baldwin galvanized the nation in the early days of the civil rights movement with this eloquent manifesto. The Fire Next Time stands as one of the essential works of our literature.

Captivating Story with Hero of Forethought
Revisado: 02-27-15
Where does The Count of Monte Cristo rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Probably the third best, after The Tiger by John Valiant and Narrow Road to the Deep North by Flanagan.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Count of Monte Cristo?
When the Count encounters Mercedes again after 20 some years.
What does John Lee bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He was an excellent narrator, differentiating substantially between characters, without making any ridiculous. Most importantly, he doesn't render his women as shrill shrews.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Many
Any additional comments?
Beautiful book, and perfect for the audiobook format. Frankly, CoMC is overwritten. But it's totally great and absolutely worth reading. The audiobook format allowed my attention to wax and wane through the many hours of the novel. When Dumas is just filling pages, you can just zone out a bit. But when Dumas is moving the story, how it moves!

Historia
It’s December 1997, and a man-eating tiger is on the prowl outside a remote village in Russia’s Far East. The tiger isn’t just killing people, it’s annihilating them, and a team of men and their dogs must hunt it on foot through the forest in the brutal cold. As the trackers sift through the gruesome remains of the victims, they discover that these attacks aren’t random: The tiger is apparently engaged in a vendetta. Injured, starving, and extremely dangerous, the tiger must be found before it strikes again.

Wild, Rich and Deep Like the Tiger Herself
Revisado: 08-07-14
What did you love best about The Tiger?
The descriptions of the tiger were amazing, but the degree to which you get a feel for the persons, biology and history of the region is amazing.
What did you like best about this story?
The essentials of the story are very short, and quite exciting and interesting. The entirety of the book arises from the authors masterful use of history and background to create a vast tapestry depicting millennia.
Which character – as performed by John Vaillant – was your favorite?
It's not a novel
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, but it's too long to do so. I listened to it in three sittings.
Any additional comments?
Wonderful -- much better than I anticipated. Listen if you are interested in Tigers, wilderness, Russia, or just curious about the world.
Also, check out the movie "Happy People, A Year in the Taiga," an amazing film about people living in the same region as The Tiger.
