Historia
Seventeen-year-old Truth Medici scavenges for scraps to eat; weathers his parents' abuse; and battles derelicts, killer pimps, and demons in the soul-crushing stretch of desperation he calls home. Even the cops steer clear of the toxic Harban slums. But just across the canal live the magical elite, with their wealth, flying carpets, gorgeous mages, and custom spell beasts, all thanks to the patronage of the almighty Starbrite Corporation. Getting there, and taking his three vulnerable siblings with him, is Truth's only dream.

Shouldn't work but it's amazing
Revisado: 12-30-24
I have now listed through book 3 and I love this series. I'm not entirely sure why but I was hooked. It's eastern cultivation blended with cyberpunk - but the cyberpunk comes more from the dystopian society ruled by megacorps than tech/cybernetics. It can read a bit slice of life at times but it does all build to a pretty satisfying story and full world. The writing is clever with a lot of entertaining musings by the MC so there's definitely some humor to offset the dark and gritty story. Well worth the credit, I'm eagerly awaiting book 4.

Historia
Victor can’t wait to get the hell out of high school, go to the local community college on a sports scholarship, and start his own life. But that’s all put on hold when he enters his abuela’s house and somehow ends up stepping into a world unlike anything he’s ever known, filled with fantastical meta-humans; walking, talking devils; and other creatures one usually needs some serious pharmaceuticals to see. Fanwath is no dream, though. In fact, it’s a nightmare.

Satisfying and Entertaining_Great system LitRPG
Revisado: 09-29-23
I really enjoyed this book. Fairly standard base concept of isekai into system world but I like the character and the mix of rpg and cultivation. Magic system is pretty solid and there's a ton of action. This was a bit reminiscent of Street Cultivation for me. There's some coming of age aspects to it but I wouldn't call is YA. The swearing did not bother me at all and I thought the narrator did a great job. Overall highly recommend. I've binged all 3 now.

Historia
After the arrival of the multiversal monopoly BuyMort, life got brutal. All systems were through BuyMort. All currency was through BuyMort. All sales were through BuyMort. You could resist, you could compete, but it didn’t really matter because in the end you used BuyMort—or you perished. BuyMort be praised. But not everyone’s happy with the new system. Some, even, want to see it destroyed. It’s quick. It’s convenient. And it will help people kill you and your family as readily as it will help them sell you knickknacks for a quick mortie.

Fantastic - Fun, gritty new twist on system apoc
Revisado: 08-25-23
I really enjoyed this. Reminiscent of Dungeon Crawler Carl in the real feeling way that civilization would react and an MC who for various reasons is uniquely suited (and a bit lucky) to thrive. Basically another universe's Amazon AI goes rogue and is on a mission to spread to new markets and maximize profits at any cost. Everything is for sale in the universal marketplace.
Not a full on LitRPG in that there are no levels and stat points but characters still evolve if they're "smart shoppers". Satisfying antagonists and an MC who has the usual checkered past but who you can get behind. I binged the first two books and am looking forward to the third. Highly recommended if you like the System Apocalypse genre.

Not a unique story but super entertaining!
Revisado: 06-29-23
This reminded me a lot of the first Jez Cajiao Underverse book. Blue collar Joe isekai'd into an rpg world. It's very well executed - the story and the performance were very entertaining. I binged this thing in record time. It's not likely to inspire any deep thinking but for 34 hours of entertainment it was a great use of a credit.
I have a feeling that we may be quickly heading towards an annoyingly OP MC who's an angel with a rough exterior - basically the Jez C model. Regardless, I would definitely recommend this book.

Historia
Gabe Skelter has a temper, which he likes to imagine has the effect of causing people to fear and respect him. On the contrary, his pudgy, underdeveloped body and negative personality make him more your standard outcast teenager. Worse still, he kinda knows what a jerkweed he actually is. Then, in the middle of a class trip, Gabe finds himself spirited away to Regaia: a world of magic, mayhem, and nerd-tastic adventure. Naturally, he’s completely ill-prepared. But in this realm, he’s a monstrous, muscular man of action.

Best listen in a long while
Revisado: 02-17-23
This book was the most entertaining listen I can recall in a long time. Yes the MC is an angry self-absorbed jerk but that's a key element of the story and it worked just fine for me. It is a story of gradual self discovery and growth. The lack of elaborate exposition that some have complained about also didn't bother me, we learn about the world as the MC does. The best part for me was the language - the word selection and phrasing was hilarious genius. Yes much of it was deliberately crass but it was also deceptively clever. I think I enjoyed this more than DC Carl I couldn't get enough. I'd highly recommend.

Historia
The world teeters on the brink of destruction. The people who should be saving the Earth ignore Jason Asano's warnings and choose to loot the house as it burns down around them. He lacks the strength to save the world himself, but resolves to do it anyway, impossible be damned. The impossible, in this case, means seizing a power that no mortal should touch. It's a choice from which there is no turning back, and marks Jason's first step into a wider cosmos that he is not yet ready to face. Holding the fate of two worlds in his hands, Jason must decide for himself what home truly means.

Revisado: 07-19-22
I didn't notice the filler and lack of story progression that other reviews mention. If you liked the previous few books you'll like this one. I thought this one wrapped up the earth arc well and I'm excited for shifting back to the other world. Looking forward to the next book.

If you liked the previous books you'll like this
Revisado: 05-02-22
It's more of the same which in this series is generally a good thing. I was not particularly bothered by the politics many other reviews mention. There's definitely some but in a magic arms race of course the traditional superpowers will be prominent and aggressive in defending their interests... I will say the author really cranked up the broody "I'm a terrible person for doing what needs to be done to save the world" stuff and it started to get pretty annoying. If that trend continues it could potentially turn me off the series but up to this point the good far outweighs the bad. As the title says, if you're a fan of the other books I'd expect you'll be a fan of this one.

For nearly all of my life, I trained to become a master assassin, but at the height of my career, it all fell apart. I was betrayed, ambushed, and left bleeding out on the streets of London. Just before my death, though, I was offered a choice: Stay and let my life come to a swift and brutal end, or become the personal assassin of a god in another world. It wasn't a hard decision. But this new world isn’t like the one I left.

Just couldn't do it
Revisado: 05-02-22
I only made it a few hours in. Main issue was the Master Assassin talks like a bad country club parody. I can normally push through a slow start but not when I have to listen to Jon Lovitz doing his aristocrat impression but trying to sound all tough and serious. I'm not blaming the reader either, it seemed to be written that way. I'm going to need my credit back on this one.

It was just a random mutation - one of a billion that happen in viruses every day. But this one was different. It exploded out of Somalia and spread across the oceans before anybody thought to look up from their cell phones to see what was going on. The infected breathed the virus into the air around them, spreading it through the cities faster than anyone thought possible. Hospitals were overwhelmed. Police lines crumbled. Quarantine sites disintegrated. Cities started to collapse.

Zombie slice of life from the POV of a half zombie
Revisado: 11-01-21
I was in between books and the value for the credit made me take a bit of a leap on this series - really glad I did. It's a pretty unique take on the Zombie apocalypse. The characters are well thought out and well developed. It's a good mix of action, drama and humor and each book is pretty satisfying on its own. In some ways I'm surprised I enjoyed it as much as I did because there isn't really a larger story arc - no main bad guy, no way for the good guys to really "win". You just follow along as Zed and Murphy go on about their adventures - all of it with a really interesting undertone of racism experienced by those who by fluke of the virus look like "zombies".

These books are amazingly entertaining. A bit goofy - like in your face goofy but there's also a really good story going and interesting skills/magic system. It's a funny twist on the typical LitRPG setup. Now one of my favorite in the genre, can't wait for the next.
