A powerful testimony of a virtue that is disappearing in this virtual world, that of “showing up. “ taking the time and trouble to attend an event, pay a call, and support others in tough times.

Crackling dry wit and yet beautifully heartfelt. I loved these flawed, funny people. Lovely reading as well.

Both were brilliant
I was surprised at Meyer’s skill as a writer - surpassing Doyle himself at times - completely engrossing

The writing is just too simple and predictable. The narrator is weak, not even an accent for the Hispanic boyfriend. Just average though well meaning.

I read all of his books when a young mom - now an older lady and approaching his life and work through this podcast was illuminating and moving. What a life to be celebrated!

He’s a spoiled royal but he gets that and somehow finds a way to our hearts and respect - a tragic tale in a way but also a tale of redemption. Well read and moving .

There is nobody like him; grinding out thousands of words and in total over two thousand characters in his books, and changing our inner landscapes as he goes. Simon Vance and Dickens are a match made in heaven: enjoy words, words and more words.

Horowitz at his best

I’ve listened to all of Horowitz’s novels, as I’ve always enjoyed his writing for television. I love this character, Susan Ryeland, and the two novels with her as protagonist have been my favorites. The writing is sharp, the mysteries are engaging and the narration is perfect. I prefer these to the novels where Horowitz puts himself in the novel as a character; those are just a bit like watching reality television - neither real nor fiction - and neither Horowitz nor his police detective are as endearing as Susan and Andreas. Enjoy these two and definitely watch the adaptation of Magpie Murders - it’s outstanding!

The first novel of the greatest novelist in English is a treasure for those of us who love his work. As Chesterton said, “Dickens had the art of enjoying everything,” and he shares that joy with us in full. One can see the embryos of all the future novels n his unique characters, hilarious descriptions and ingenious plots. Pickwick is a joy to know, as is Sam and all the gang. And Patrick Tull was born to read Dickens. It just doesn’t get any better this combination of author and auditor. When I wasn’t laughing or shedding a tear I couldn’t stop smiling!
