Historia
Winter still has a firm stranglehold on the small town of Granford, and newly married orchard owner Meg Chapin is restless to begin her spring pruning and planting, while Seth busies himself with a new project of his own. But their relative peace is shattered when a gunshot breaks the winter silence, and they discover the body of a dead woman on their land. What's just as troubling is that the state police have hushed up the murder and are warning Meg not to investigate.

Slow but easy listening
Revisado: 02-21-25
There was a lot of repetition. It seemed like the author was stretching out the story. Good for falling asleep?

Texas, 1921. A time of abundance. The Great War is over, the bounty of the land is plentiful, and America is on the brink of a new and optimistic era. But for Elsa Wolcott, deemed too old to marry in a time when marriage is a woman’s only option, the future seems bleak. Until the night she meets Rafe Martinelli. By 1934, the world has changed; millions are out of work and drought has devastated the Great Plains. Stunning
Revisado: 08-27-21
For awhile the book unfolded as “nice” and entertaining. Then I found myself in the grips of surviving the dust, completely caught up and living the misery. It is epic, gut wrenching and beautiful. For readers or listeners there is always a lifeline. It is not depressing even when the story is most desperate. The narrator is so good at voices that it’s just mind blowing. And the interview after you’ve read it is fascinating!

Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

A fun smart cocktail of philosophy
Revisado: 07-24-21
A charming story if you are willing to suspend poking holes in the story. Suspend judgment for these hours and you’ll end up appreciating life a lot more, while also a bit mystified how you got there. Very clever bit of philosophy wrapped in a charming package and filled with characters you enjoy. The characters and the story lack some depth, but the way I felt about my 72 years of living in the end made the book worthy of my time.

Raw and honest
Revisado: 07-15-21
It’s a tough book to read, brave and unflinching from the real loss of Marilyn after her devastating illness. It’s a love story- all the more amazing because it’s true. But we also suffer depressed along with Irv. So I witheld a star… I think many wouldn’t “enjoy” the book. I’m also not sure what I learned. But my respect for this couple has grown. They’re just wonderful and I’m happy to know this kind of love exists.

Great Story
Revisado: 02-28-21
I enjoyed the tale. Unfortunately the main narrator lapsed into a sing-song rhythm whenever there was a stretch without dialogue. Very distracting. Nonetheless I’d recommend it.

Great book
Revisado: 09-15-19
Mrs. Obama did a great job in her narrative - particularly in its organization and in all that she covered. The book is thorough, thoughtful and does not leave the reader wanting. I loved all about her childhood, her family and her romance. Much of her public life was familiar to me as I'd always been a fan.
Her performance was disappointing to me because it was very slow and, while not monotonous, it didn't carry much in highs and lows. I tried speeding it up, but that didn't work well with her voice. I find her speech a bit sounding like she has too many teeth in her mouth (sorry!) Still, I wouldn't have wanted anyone else to read it!
At the end of the book, I felt I really did know her pretty well BEFORE reading the book. Nothing in the book was a big surprise and the Michelle I knew without all the backstory was pretty close to the Michelle I discovered listening to her book.
I believe this book is a classic autobiography and one that can direct others onto a solid path as an example of how to do it.
Thank you, Michelle - you are the classiest woman I know - too many teeth notwithstanding!

To take a skeptical approach to American history is not to dabble in imaginative conspiracy theories; rather, it's to reframe your understanding of this great nation's past and actually strengthen your appreciation for what makes American history such a fascinating chapter in the larger story of Western civilization. And in this bold 24-lecture series, you can do just that.

Sometimes it confused me... or was it my driving
Revisado: 09-15-19
I loved Mr. Stoler's insights and wanted badly to rid my knowledge of American history from its biases. In fact his explanation of our biases was my favorite part. Sometimes, though, I missed what was the "skeptical" part of a chapter and often listened to them twice trying to understand better. Perhaps it was just inattentiveness while driving.
In any case the course really boosted my desire to know more and more about each President and our history - as factually as possible!
