I needed to get the hell out of Big City. The only reason I'm living in this American wasteland is because my mother insisted I reconcile with my estranged father. That the idea came to her while drunk on French bubbly should have been my sign to stay right where I belonged. Anywhere but here. Certainly somewhere more fabulous. When an international job opportunity arises, I jump on board. It's just a bonus that I'll be traveling with the epitome of tall, dark, and handsome. Make that muscular, morally gray, and hopefully, my next conquest.

Revisado: 03-16-24
I've already read the book 3 times since its release and was so excited for the audiobook version. The new narrator did a great job. It's a pity none of them could speak French properly but I rather them having the perfect voice for the Suarez clan so that's fine by me 😊 can't wait for book 3! 🦎

Historia
In 2059, two vastly different groups of people portrayed by the compelling trio of Brendan Fraser (Academy Award winner), Luke Kirby (Emmy Award winner), and Vanessa Sears (Dora Award winner) undergo cryonic suspension. While their bodies are frozen, their minds, still active and awake, are uploaded into a massive quantum computer. The first group are all astronauts, about to leave Earth on a one-way interstellar colonization mission. The second group consists of convicted murderers and volunteers who elect to serve their sentences in a virtual-reality prison.

A great surprise
Revisado: 02-13-24
This is very outside of my comfort zone (I haven’t read a SciFi novel in years) but as I was looking through the Audible plus catalogue I saw Brendan Fraser’s face and borrowed it. (Great marketing idea since I’m sure I’m not the only did based on him🤓)
I dived in blind and had a read great time with it! I actually forced myself to play my video game longer than my usual time to make sure I could finish it today so that’s a good sign ^^
The whole cast reading was great and the story really hooked me in. I was also agreeably surprised by the presence of a trans character and the humour in the story at unexpected times. Brendan Fraser was a great choice for his character IMO, he really brought humanity to this part of the story despite the murder he was in prison for in the first place.
Content warning for those who like me prefer to know ahead:
there is a brutal murder described (and described again in more vivid details later ) and there is a s#xual assault attempt scene (pants go down and the guy gets stop)
I usually have a hard time with Sci-fi since I have trouble focusing on complicated stories nowadays so I really liked that this was quite short (8H I think) and the voices were easy to recognise.

Good but a bit confusing
Revisado: 01-30-24
Having grown up with the french dub of Buffy in the 90s I admit I didn't know all the characters' original voices. I've seen bits on youtube in English but I've never heard Dru's original voice for example. My biggest problem is that some of those characters had very similar voices so I kept wondering if it was Anya, Cordelia or Tara talking which made it hard to follow (and I see that others had the same issue)
When I heard about this audiobook I was very excited but let's be real I mostly got it for James Marsters. I've listened to him read other audiobook and I love his voice.
The story was ok overall even though too long IMO. Of course they had to use the multi verse route to have a chance to get those characters together again and I guess it's not a bad choice. I do wish we could have had the scooby gang though. I know there's nothing they can do about it if the main actors don't want to come back but Buffy without Buffy and Willow is kind of lacking I think. Of course depending on the success of this first volume and seeing how it ends they could try to convince some of them to come back now.
Overall it was a nice nostalgia trip in my teen years but I wish the actress were easier to recognize and I think it could have been a bit shorter.

Join David as he encounters his eccentric Aunt Betsey, faithful Peggotty and the villainous Uriah Heep, and as he falls in love with Little Em'ly, Dora and Agnes. And then there is old school friend James Steerforth: dashing, daring and seductive. This dramatisation explores the complexities and intimacies of that relationship beyond anything possible in Dickens' day, in an adaptation giving fresh life and vividness to this beloved tale.

What an amazing adaptation!
Revisado: 01-19-24
What a great discovery!!
I’ve tried many times to read David Copperfield and I even had the version read by Richard Armitage. But even my favourite audiobook reader couldn’t make me go through 40 hours of this story so I was delighted to discover not only that there was a new adapted and much shorter version but also that this version was read by a cast including Richard again AND Ncuti Gatwa! (As a huge Doctor who I couldn’t resist!)
Sometimes with a full cast some of the voice actors (or when 1 actor does some of the characters in a very horrible way) can be really annoying but I absolutely loved all of them here! Richard was so good he was honestly terrifying! You might be aware that there are some beating scenes from David’s childhood chapters but a word of warning is that those scenes can be triggering with the audio effects on top of the great acting. I honestly had to skip one of them because I couldn’t bear it with the belt noise…So keep that in mind if it’s a trigger for you.
The actor who played young David was amazing, and I especially loved all the women characters, all well played, whether they’re famous or not!
But my absolute favourite thing was Ncuti himself. Just like on screen he was such a ray of sunshine (in such a dark story) I was smiling just listening to him! Honestly this man fascinates me, his whole energy is always such a joy!
I think the whole cast did a great job giving life to those characters to compensate the fact that the adaptation was so short. It was brilliantly done IMO. And the balance with sound effects was also well orchestrated. Sometimes those can be overwhelming but here I loved what they brought to the story.
I knew some bits about the story but didn’t know much overall so I was suddenly very surprised when I started to see hints of a queer relationship between David and Steerforth! I thought I was imagining it but as I did some research on it, there's a clear subtext of it in the original text. This adaptation clearly wants to make sure there’s no misunderstanding about their relationship (and how much David adores him) and I was here for it! It was honestly so well done between their acting and the sound effects…Of course lots of readers will find this adaptation absolutely outrageous but it made me love it even more!
And the last 10 minutes were adorable!
Honestly I’m so glad I listened to this adaptation: so many times I’m curious about some classics but my brain fog now makes it harder to focus on those longer and older novels. So finding a great audiobook version is a great way to make me appreciate it!
I really recommend it if you’re not afraid of some 🏳️🌈🥰

Love the story, not the narrator
Revisado: 01-11-24
This was a reread for me as I already knew the story. I love seeing Magnus and Alec again and love the idea of this series following them at different moments of their life together. However the narrator was really annoying at times: so many of his voices made me want to smack characters that I do like (Clary, Simon and Jace sounded ridiculous!) and the Asian accents were a bit too over the top in my opinion. The demon’s was fun though.

This final play from the pen of Oscar Wilde is a stylish send-up of Victorian courtship and manners, complete with assumed names, mistaken lovers, and a lost handbag. Jack and Algernon are best friends, both wooing ladies who think their names are Ernest, "that name which inspires absolute confidence". Wilde's effervescent wit, scathing social satire, and high farce make this one of the most cherished plays in the English language.

A Marple without Miss Marple
Revisado: 11-02-23
The only thing I loved about this book was Richard E Grant narration. It was simply marvelous!
The rest was disappointing : it's very long to get started and Miss Marple only appears when there's only 1h30 left 🤔why name it a Marple story? And she solve the story on her own (without the narrator) she only tells the how/why/where... Once the murderer has been arrested which means she's barely in the book. Ridiculous!
I got it for free so that's fine but I wouldn't recommend reading it. Richard was amazing though! 👏

Big City is supposedly the place where dreams come true. As someone just trying to live my life, I can tell you it’s more like a recurring nightmare where dreams get c*ckblocked at every turn. Especially if you’re a supervillain like me. The irony is that I have zero powers, despite coming from purebred villain stock, but try telling that to Big City’s beloved hero, Captain Masculine.

And the audiobook adaptation is just PERFECT!!!! It’ll be now among my top 5 fav audiobooks and I will listen to it again and again!
The 2 narrators were absolutely brilliant, bringing so much emotions into their scenes (especially the se*y ones 🔥)
I highly recommend this book and its sequel!

Emery Thompson hates Calvin Chamberlain. From the way he acts like he’s better than everyone to the way he moves through the world thinking his podcast is the cream of the crop, every little thing about the man gets to him. Even that dashing, oh-so-confident smile. He’d rather be caught dead than be around the man any longer than necessary—or admit that last part out loud.

Revisado: 01-14-23
I loved this short romance and the fact that despite its length it had depth. The subjects treated were interesting, the narrators brought life to the characters and I find myself laughing out loud several times because of their interactions. My only regret is that it was a close door romance but it's a question of preference. I highly recommend this one!
