Historia
The Goldfinch is a haunted odyssey through present-day America and a drama of enthralling force and acuity. It begins with a boy. Theo Decker, a 13-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don't know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his unbearable longing for his mother, he clings to one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.

What is the point of this novel?
Revisado: 04-20-17
What would have made The Goldfinch better?
A story that moved along....instead it read like a young adult journal of daily events. I never made it past the scenes in Las Vegas. In my defense I never finished the book, but what story was she trying to tell??
Would you ever listen to anything by Donna Tartt again?
Nope
Which character – as performed by David Pittu – was your favorite?
Boris was very good as was the older gentleman who repaired the furniture. After all the lines and lines of unnecessary details, his name escapes me.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Goldfinch?
All the scenes should have been cut down. We get the kid has a miserable life after his mom dies. I don't need days and days of it.
Any additional comments?
I never finished this book. I couldn't get through another hour of repetitive detail and melancholy atmosphere without there being some story.

Historia
Beyond the skyline of Toledo stands the Toledo Institute of Astronomy, the nation's premier center of astronomical discovery and a beacon of scientific learning for astronomers far and wide. One of these is George Dermont, a dreamer and a man of deep faith, who's trying to prove the scientific existence of a Gateway to God, and speaks to ancient gods and believes they speak back. Its newest star is Irene Sparks, a pragmatist and mathematician invited to lead the Institute's work on a massive superconductor being constructed below Toledo.

Not enough negative adjectives for this book
Revisado: 11-02-14
Would you try another book from Lydia Netzer and/or Joshilyn Jackson?
Lydia Netzer: NEVER Joshilyn Jackson is an amazing author and her narrations of her own novels are wonderful.
Has How to Tell Toledo from the Night Sky turned you off from other books in this genre?
What genre is it--fiction??Science fiction?? Fantasy? Ramblings from someone trying to fill up pages?
How could the performance have been better?
Multiple narrators--there were too many characters for one person to do. Jackson's voice doesn't lend itself to many of the characters very well.
What character would you cut from How to Tell Toledo from the Night Sky?
The research assistant, George's dad, the girl who is mute. There are so many terrible characters with terrible voices.
Any additional comments?
There are times during this book that it felt like a pre-teen was writing the novel, other times it sounded like the author was writing during a drug induced hallucination. The dialog between the characters is awkward--there really is no conversation in this book. Its terrible--I have no idea how this book got published.

Historia
Like his father before him, Arthur Winthrop is the Headmaster of Vermont’s elite Lancaster School. It is the place he feels has given him his life, but is also the site of his undoing as events spiral out of his control. Found wandering naked in Central Park, he begins to tell his story to the police, but his memories collide into one another, and the true nature of things, a narrative of love, of marriage, of family and of a tragedy Arthur does not know how to address emerges. Luminous and atmospheric, the novel is part mystery, part love story and an exploration of the ties of place and family.

Don't Understand the Hype
Revisado: 08-31-14
What would have made The Headmaster's Wife better?
A better story, better narrators. The people in the story are so miserable, by the end I felt there were no redeeming qualities.
What could Thomas Christopher Greene have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
The characters were well developed, maybe over-developed, but the story was lacking in development. The ending was so boring.
Would you be willing to try another one of the narrators’s performances?
NO!
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Not really

Historia
Eleven-year-old Michael Murray is the best at two things: Keepy-uppies and keeping secrets. His family thinks he's too young to hear grown-up stuff, but he listens at doors; it's the only way to find out anything. And Michael's heard a secret, one that might explain the bruises on his mother's face. When the whispers at home and on the street become too loud to ignore, Michael begins to wonder if there is an even bigger secret waiting to be discovered.

Very Dark Yet Funny
Revisado: 07-29-14
Where does Closed Doors rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Probably the best one so far-GREAT story, dark humor and subject but told in a way that made you want to listen. The speaker was amazing, I could totally picture the scenes, and felt for the characters as the plot progressed.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Closed Doors?
The interaction between Michael and his mother when the truth is revealed.
Have you listened to any of Simon Vance’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have not--I would listen to him again though if the story was good.
If you could take any character from Closed Doors out to dinner, who would it be and why?
The grandmother--she's a hysterical, hypocritical, kind person. It would be a fun dinner.

Would you listen to Truthfully Speaking at the 92nd Street Y again? Why?
Yes--the stories were real and so entertaining.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I love Adriana Trigiani--have heard her speak live numerous times and could listen to her for hours. The other speaker was very entertaining. It was fun to hear the inside "scoop" of writing for tv.

Entertaining, but seemed to stall at points
Revisado: 07-29-14
What made the experience of listening to Orphan Train the most enjoyable?
The historical reference and development over the "past" time frame.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The facts/history of the time period were the most interesting. The least interesting was the modern day plot--it felt like a young adult novel during these chapters. Not much plot here, not much character development til the end of the book. Modern day aspect was boring.
What about Jessica Almasy and Suzanne Toren ’s performance did you like?
Accents, age appropriate voices were decent.
If you could take any character from Orphan Train out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Vivian---I would love to hear more about the 90 years of her life, particularly the early decades.

Historia
When a fly-covered canvas bag floats to the surface of North Carolina’s Mountain Island Lake, forensic anthropologist Tempe Brennan is called to the scene. Animal remains? Or could this be related to bone fragments from a human male found nearby? To Tempe’s surprise, the decomposed body indicates the person was a female young adult. The profile fits the description of a missing graduate student named Edith Blankenship.

Good for a short story
Revisado: 07-07-14
Would you listen to Bones in Her Pocket again? Why?
No because the mystery has already been solved.
What other book might you compare Bones in Her Pocket to and why?
Any other full length Kathy Riechs story. I felt like I was getting the same format, style, etc as her novels. Even though it was short it was still a great story.
What does Linda Emond bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The accents of the characters
