Historia
1860: As the clash between the states rolls slowly to a boil, Elizabeth Packard, housewife and mother of six, is facing her own battle. The enemy sits across the table and sleeps in the next room. Her husband of 21 years is plotting against her because he feels increasingly threatened - by Elizabeth’s intellect, independence, and unwillingness to stifle her own thoughts. So Theophilus makes a plan to put his wife back in her place. One summer morning, he has her committed to an insane asylum.

Incredible book!
Revisado: 01-05-23
I have listened to the audible version of this book twice, and it is so incredibly compelling! We should learn about the life of Elizabeth Packard in school, and put her beside many of our historical heroes.

Historia
Roberta spends her life trying not to take up space. At almost 30, she is adrift and alienated from life. Stuck in a mindless job and reluctant to pursue her passion for food, she suppresses her appetite and recedes to the corners of rooms. But when she meets Stevie, a spirited and effervescent artist, their intense friendship sparks a change in Roberta, a shift in her desire for more.

Completely immature and vapid book
Revisado: 03-04-20
The book cover of this book made it sound like it was going to be a wonderful look at female relationships. I found it to be immature and depressing with horribly insecure and flat characters. Several people in our book club gave it a zero I at least gave it a one. Very disappointing and a complete waste of my time with his many wonderful books as are out there.
