Awesome and thought-provoking
Revisado: 08-30-19
I loved this book. I wasn’t expecting to like it at all, based on the reviews - and that’s why I’m writing this review. The story is excellent and very interesting, and the judge’s perspective on criminal trial practice is kind of unique. Not many novels out there that are penned by sitting federal judges, I think. It’s really well done. That said, the book argues pretty unapologetically against the death penalty so, if you’re a fan of “capital punishment” (a euphemism that I will never use again, thanks to Judge Ponsor’s story and characters) then maybe you should skip this book. Then again, if you’re a fan of the death penalty then maybe you should listen and see if it challenges your opinions.

Crummy house cleaning in the rain kind of day so I put this on.... and it changed everything. Funny and smart and meaningful, it’s just an awesome listen.

Historia
Britt-Marie can't stand mess. She eats dinner at precisely the right time and starts her day at six in the morning because only lunatics wake up later than that. And she is not passive-aggressive. Not in the least. It's just that sometimes people interpret her helpful suggestions as criticisms, which is certainly not her intention. But at 63, Britt-Marie has had enough. She finally walks out on her loveless 40-year marriage and finds a job in the only place she can: Borg, a small, derelict town devastated by the financial crisis.

Sweet, meaningful, life affirming
Revisado: 05-31-17
I love this story. If you haven't read 'my grandmother says to tell you she's sorry,' you might want to read that first. Either way, do not miss this. It's about soccer, and poverty, and clean windows; it's about the way small actions can have a big impact, and the way rough speech can be loving. Read this and your view on life and friendship will change for the better.

Gorgeous tale of sad times and optimism, love and hardship, error and forgiveness. The accent will have you trying a Scottish lilt. Give it a listen.
