The reason I said it was the best is due to the fact that the leads are likeable and the character development is great. Also, there was sex but not as much graphic sex as in some of other books that are so popular. She balances the sex scenes between the ones that needed to be more detailed because of the story and others that were lightly touched on.
The narration suited the story and characters. Looking forward to more..

Great blend of two genres Space Opera at it's best

5 stars. So glad I picked this audio book after reading great reviews. Dark Horse is one of those wonderful books that cross genres and will be considered both a romance and sci fi. Beautiful world building, the characters are realistic, fully rounded and continue to grow throughout the story. The emotions between the H/h are palpable without being uncomfortably graphic.
If you are a fan of Lois McMaster Bujold, Lee and Miller or Patricia Briggs you will find this one a keeper!

if you know anything at all about the military, "black ops" or self defense there is no way to read this book, the scenarios are just too unrealistic. narration was ok.

Uneven volume of narration marred a great story

I listened to this story using Audible escape. Would have returned it if I had used a credit..
I Loved the story. The narrator wasn't my favorite by a long shot , her cadence hard to get used to at first. However the volume of the narration was terribly uneven which made the story less enjoyable than it could have been. Almost all of the conversations were almost whispered so that I had to turn up the volume which made the rest of the narration unbearably loud. I spent a lot of time adjusting the volume, throwing me out of the story. Don't know if the problem was with the narrator or the production.

Heyer and Phillip's: A great combo.

Have loved this story since the first time I read it and I must say that Sian Phillip's has done an outstanding performance. She has used voices that beautifully match the way I imagined they would sound and are easy to distinguish one from another. In addition her narration was appropriate to the different moods of the story. A great combo..I will listen to it again and again.

Wrong narrator for this story.

Loved this book for more than 20 years. Looked forward to audible book. Narrator is good but not the right one for this story. He has a deep voice when, in my opinion the narrator needs a lighter less serious voice. All the characters sound like men. The dichotomy was too noticeable for me to finish it.

Horrible narration, just awful

Narration ruined this story. I have read this book and enjoyed it. Looked forward to listening to it but the narration was so bad I couldn’t even finish the first chapter. Each sentence ends with a moaning downwards whine. Just Awful.

I usually enjoy LLM’s books but the only thing I enjoyed about this one was Jack Garrett narration which was superior as always. The “hero” appears to be an insensitive jerk who chooses a stupid ploy to win the heroine over. How about being honest and understanding instead?

Every now and then Ms Miller writes a book, usually a second time around story, where the “hero” seems to totally disregard the heroine’s current feelings and the pain she suffered at the time of the original breakup. Instead he uses their chemistry to get what he wants while poking fun or “riling her up” for his personal enjoyment. Bah !
