Historia
Miranda's business—combining Appalachian adventure tours with art and a bit of moonshine—is the perfect place for an outdoor sporting goods company to hold an employee retreat. It'll be a challenge, but the money they're paying will definitely help with building her new distillery. Miranda has lots of teamwork-fostering activities planned, from sketching classes to Southern cooking, but the executive running things prefers a more competitive spirit. In fact, after the workers are split into teams, they're told that only the winners will keep their jobs, and tensions begin to spike.

Characters and mysteries are good – overall timeline is weird
Revisado: 03-22-25
I’ve been enjoying the people and environment for the series. I’m having difficulty, however, with the timeline for the entire grouping of books. Either there are a whole heck of a lot of murders in a couple weeks, or the timeline doesn’t work. All three books seem to take place in autumn before Thanksgiving – about a month and a half to two months total. Sandy, the puppy, is said to be 10 weeks old in this book. The dog has appeared in the first two books as well and must be older than that – puppies aren’t weaned until six or seven weeks at the earliest. An injury in the previous book for one of the main characters isn’t even mentioned in this one. Missed details like this throw off the overall enjoyment of the story for me.

Cute series/ love the pups-jarring pronunciation
Revisado: 03-18-25
I like the little town Sylvan Creek and the adorable dogs/pets that are as entertaining as many of the human characters. The mysteries are well-crafted and sometimes surprising (as in this book). The narrator, while she does a fine job generally differentiating voices and giving life and humor to the story, sometimes mispronounces words. I believe it was in the previous book that she mispronounced two dog breeds and occasionally unusual words like "stymied". With the preponderance of online/AI tools to assist with securing correct pronunciation, such slips seem less understandable.

Reasonable Cozy
Revisado: 08-15-24
I've enjoyed getting into Cranberry Cove and its inhabitants. This one had a few good options for the potential murderer, and I appreciated having to put a little more into guessing whodunit.
That said, I am unsure how this one fits the timeline established in Book 5 (time of year - how did we get from winter to fall, skipping spring when Jeff and Lauren's wedding was planned?). It also annoyed me that the narrator kept pronouncing the dog's name, Hercule (as in Poirot). as "HER-kew-LEE". Distracting and unnecessary - the same narrator pronounced Hercule Poirot's name correctly in an earlier book.

Lazy plotting and too much political proselytizing
Revisado: 02-08-22
I’ve been making my way through the Lucy Stone books over the last several weeks. While I have come to enjoy many of the characters and have found previous mysteries truly engaging and occasionally challenging to unravel, this one feels both dialed in and too preachy. I’ve already purchased the next few books ,but I am now hesitant to continue with the rest of the series. If the author is going to continue to lambaste readers with political views instead of providing solid ,engaging mysteries that respect both the characters many readers have come to enjoy - as well as the readers themselves - then it’s not worth my time and it was a waste of money.
At a time when I choose my escape fiction to get away from the polarizing voices in the world around me,I’m truly disappointed to find the characters in this previously engaging series becoming just a strident and divisive as those who vent their bile in harangues on social media. I avoid that nonsense actively, and didn’t expect to find it cropping up in this series. Truly a shame.
