Historia
Critical thinking is regularly cited as an essential 21st century skill, the key to success in school and work. Given our propensity to believe fake news, draw incorrect conclusions, and make decisions based on emotion rather than reason, it might even be said that critical thinking is vital to the survival of a democratic society. But what, exactly, is critical thinking? Haber describes the term's origins in such disciplines as philosophy, psychology, and science.

Grab a warm blanket. This audiobook puts you right into the action of the life-and-death decisions made by early Antarctic explorers. It is filled with unforgettable stories about the challenges and decisions they faced on the ice. While we might not be pulling sledges across Antarctica in the early 1900s, this audiobook also reveals valuable lessons in leadership, teamwork, and sheer grit and determination that can help all of us make better decisions in our lives today.

Antarctic or Resilience? How about both?
Revisado: 02-08-24
Liked this well enough, I purchased the hardcopy. I read it with this narrator's voice playing in my mind. I've researched some of the examples and found ways to incorporate the lessons learned into some of the classes I've taught as well as using hindsight to revisit some of my past decisions... good and bad.

Historia
Paula Power, the daughter of a wealthy railway magnate, inherits De Stancy Castle, an ancient castle in need of modernization. She commissions a young architect from London, George Somerset, to undertake the work. Somerset falls in love with Paula. But Paula, the Laodicean of the title, meaning a person who is lukewarm or halfhearted, is torn between George's admiration and that of Captain De Stancy, whose old-world romanticism contrasts with Somerset's forward-looking outlook.

Fueled by a childhood fascination with death, journalist Hayley Campbell searches for answers in the people who make a living by working with the dead. Along the way, she encounters mass fatality investigators, embalmers, and a former executioner who is responsible for ending sixty-two lives. Historia
Breakfast of Champions (1973) provides frantic, scattershot satire and a collage of Vonnegut's obsessions. His recurring cast of characters and American landscape was perhaps the most controversial of his canon; it was felt by many at the time to be a disappointing successor to Slaughterhouse-Five, which had made Vonnegut's literary reputation.

Malkovich makes up for Vonnegut
Revisado: 01-23-21
If you're unfamiliar with Kurt Vonnegut, it's a tough "listen". However, John Malkovich is, as always, engaging. His descriptions of Vonnegut's illustrations added to the entertainment. Even he sounded surprised and amused by what he was describing.
All in all, it's worth a listen. I doubt I'll commit to reading it as I've done w other audio books.

Historia
One of the most admired nonfiction writers of our time retells the story of one truly fabulous year in the life of his native country - a fascinating and gripping narrative featuring such outsized American heroes as Charles Lindbergh, Babe Ruth, and yes Herbert Hoover, and a gallery of criminals (Al Capone), eccentrics (Shipwreck Kelly), and close-mouthed politicians (Calvin Coolidge). It was the year Americans attempted and accomplished outsized things and came of age in a big, brawling manner. What a country. What a summer. And what a writer to bring it all so vividly alive.

can I return this??
Revisado: 10-24-19
There is never a need for a 55 minute prologue. That's enough material for a different book. Frankly, half way through, I forgot what the ACTUAL BOOK was about.....
I don't even want it in my life any longer to even reconsider listening to....
Can I get a refund? Lord, I hope so....
