Great story, monotone performance
Revisado: 03-14-25
I’ve listened to several of Irina Shapiro’s books now and her writing is top notch, this story is no exception. The only drawback is the narrator. Her voice almost makes the story boring to me, she almost sounds like an AI voice, not dynamic enough. I much prefer the performance of Imogene Church, who has read most of her other books I’ve listened to. I’m still enjoying this book, but I find myself irritated by the narrator.

I love this series and am already looking forward to the next one! I did not see the end coming, the book kept me guessing the whole time. Every element was satisfying. So good!

Historia
For myself and Lauren, my 10-year-old daughter No 3 Beech Close was to be our refuge after two years of hell nursing my sick mother. In need of a fresh start and wanting to distance ourselves from the bad memories of my mother’s house we moved to Beech Close, a small cul-de-sac of six houses situated around a picture-perfect green. It seemed perfect but I had underestimated the secrets that this tightknit community shared. Within hours of moving in my next-door neighbour Valerie made it abundantly clear we were not welcome.

Gripping story!
Revisado: 05-02-24
I really enjoy the performance of this narrator and actually chose this book because of her. This was easy to follow with an interesting cast of characters. My only critique is it felt a little slow, with a lot of descriptive detail going into things that didn’t propel the story forward. It was still well written and I enjoyed the twist/resolution of the story!
