Historia
She is my muse, and I am her demon of music. A year ago, I witnessed sweet Scarlett Day’s dark side. She’s been my obsession ever since. I was content with being her secret, content with protecting her from afar… until an enemy from my past sets his sights on her. Our families have a deep history of hatred, and Scarlett is caught in the middle. Meanwhile, her mind plays tricks on her. When a panic attack goes horribly wrong, I emerge from the shadows to save her. Now that she’s mine, I can’t let her go. I’ve mastered the darkness. She tempts me with her light.

I groaned more than moaned.
Revisado: 03-25-24
I saw a review for this on a tiktok. suffice to say it's the last time I'll be taking recommendations from them and I canceled my pre order for another book by this author.
the "Dark theme" was not my issue, if you wanna even call it dark. sure there murder and bonadage (done horribly) but it was more . . . meh.
it was the downright awful FMC who's a 22 year old virgin BTW. it felt like she was written by a man.
also male narrator sounded super congested?
over all I don't know how this book has gotten so many rave reviews but it's a 1/10 from me.

To everyone who knows them, best friends Miel and Sam are as strange as they are inseparable. Roses grow out of Miel's wrist, and rumors say that she spilled out of a water tower when she was five. Sam is known for the moons he paints and hangs in the trees and for how little anyone knows about his life before he and his mother moved to town. But as odd as everyone considers Miel and Sam, even they stay away from the Bonner girls, four beautiful sisters rumored to be witches.

over written manic pixi vibes.
Revisado: 03-07-24
Repetive, over written, and generally confusing.
I've read books where it's written like a modern day fairy tale and I tend to like them but this one is rather poorly done.
I gave up 1/3 of the way through.

I reacted (a least once a chapter of which there are over 100) to this book much as I would an awful pun.
With a groan, a laugh, and a muttered "seriously?"
Which wouldnt be so bad if this were an even mildly comical book, but it's not. Do yourself a favor and don't buy this if you're not SUPER into name dropping, male power fantasy, and . . .idk cars I guess?
as a fan of this genre I'm ashamed.
the narrator was good though.

The world is filled with nightmares, and the looming threat of losing his soul stands between his goal and his reality, so it’s not like it will be too hard or anything. Hell should tremble. A good man is going to war.

90% screen writing focused
Revisado: 12-08-23
I want to preface this by saying I am not a professional writer.
I write mostly as a hobby, but I have been paid to do so once or twice.
just putting that out there as it feels relevant when reviewing a book about writing
firstly if you write anything other than screen plays don't bother with this.
secondly this book isn't about improving your writing. Its more more about how to write something that's appealing to movie/TV producers.
i will say there are like one, or two helpful nuggets of information that can be used outside of screen writing but they aren't exclusive to this book.
save your money keep looking

it actually kept me guessing just one issue.
Revisado: 08-16-23
I liked it overall. Narration, the story, the twists, the subject matter and themes all great.
I do however have one issue-
the amount of times certain phrases were repeated.
I get that when you really want to nail a point home you repeat it. so it sticks in the mind and stands out to the reader.
but
honestly?
They skipped over "oh that must be important" level repetition, to "okay little weird you're saying it again." repetition and WAY beyond that to the point where it felt like the writer just needed a few more for the word count. like it genuinely felt like she just FLIPPED pages pointed to spots in the books and put "the house her father built" until her fingers got tired.
other than that it's great. a way around that may be to not listen to it all in one day like I did and that may make it less glaring.

One of Marek’s few consolations is his enduring bond with the blind village midwife, Ina, who suckled him when he was a baby. When's my report due?
Revisado: 08-16-23
The whole thing feels like something you would of had to read for a HS English class. it's not juvenile, it just follows that kind of recipie.
-Sprinkles of content that are "mature" and "taboo" that keep you turning the pages in hopes you'll get more of that. but spoiler there isn't. like I said it's sprinkled and very sparingly at that.
-this whole book is basically perfect for a " what are the deeper themes of X book" essay. lots to work with and all very low hanging fruit. You could skim and get a C.
-the end seemed rushed and incomplete too. Which again common thing for required reading. so they can ask you questions about what happened after for an extra 5 points on a creative writing assignment.
this was recommended by a few people and placed in the horror or suspense category. it's got some "dark themes" and mild gore. neither enough to fit in those categories.
I would call it a "graphic fairy tale" at most.
I would return it if I could.
but the narration is great.

Design journalist Kassia St. Clair guides us through the technological advancements and cultural customs that would redefine human civilization - from the fabric that allowed mankind to achieve extraordinary things (traverse the oceans and shatter athletic records) and survive in unlikely places (outer space and the South Pole).

does her voice give anyone else anxiety?
Revisado: 07-07-23
it can't just be me but this narrator sounds like she's on the verge of crying through the ENTIRE book?
Initially I thought
"eh she had a rough day maybe, whatever it will change."
Nope whole book. it's not just uncomfortable it's anxiety inducing.
Now for the book itself. lack luster and repetitive. like I swear they copy pasted sections from earlier chapters into later sections like a kid adding words to reach the minimum on an essay. I had to make sure I hadnt accidently skipped backward but nope.
there are some gems of knowledge but over all just not worth the credit in more ways than one.
which thanks to audibles new RIDICULOUS return policy I'm stuck with this.

Tropey and jumbled.
Revisado: 06-15-23
tropey, with troubling parts, red herings, jumbled over all and despite all of that not long enough.
oh not because it's not good and i needed more but because it doesn't actually finish the story. which makes it worse.

reeks of privilege but it is informational.
Revisado: 06-04-23
Read it if you're interested in food and wine because it's quite informational especially if you're american- BUT take it with a grain of salt.
it's a weeeee bit repetitive.
it's pretentious, as most things involving foodies are.
over all? worth the credit. I would recommend it to certain people not everyone.
