Over The Plain Houses has depth and wonder at every turn. I truly felt transported in time and place, and found myself feeling so moved by Irenie’s courage, as well as Matthew’s. The narration is exceptional, creating a true shift in presence between Irenie and Brodis. If I could give 10 stars I would !

Narrator hard to understand

The book itself is wonderful. The narrator however is difficult to understand. Her diction is not clear enough and I had to replay many sections To understand or turn my volume up much louder than necessary to figure what she was saying. I can understand getting into character, which most of Lisa Wingate’s narrators have done beautifully, but this is just plain difficult to understand. She drifts off at the end of words and sentences.
