Historia
Andrew Crain has it all: a brilliant scientist and astute businessman, his groundbreaking work with lithium has made him one of the world’s richest men. He is universally adored and admired; that is, until Crain’s beautiful wife, Laura, comes to Spenser hoping that he can find out what skeletons lurk in her husband’s closet. Though Crain is a generous philanthropist and loving family man, she is concerned—he has recently become secretive, bordering on paranoid, and prone to violent outbursts.

Any time your favorite detective is handed off to a new writer there are worries. Not in this case. Mike Lupica’s love of the character shines through each page. My only suggestion is he write faster on the next one. Well done, Mr Lupica.

Audiobook or Print
Revisado: 10-11-22
Another great book in the Cormoran Strike series. If you are torn between reading this one or listening to the audiobook, I'd recommend reading it instead. Due to the plot, there are ton of private messages and Tweets, and each one starts with the date, who is sending the message and to whom. With extremely long message threads, this gets monotonous. If you were reading it, you'd skip over these parts quickly, but can't in an audiobook. This is not the fault of Robert Glenister, as his work continues to be first class.

Historia
At the local state university, two feuding departments have faced off on the battleground of science and medicine. Each carries their views to extremes that may seem absurd, but highly educated people of sound mind and good intentions can reasonably disagree, right? Then a renowned and confrontational scholar winds up dead, and Virgil Flowers is brought in to investigate...and as he probes the recent ideological unrest, he soon comes to realize he's dealing with people who, on this one particular issue, are functionally crazy.

It's Flower Time
Revisado: 10-08-19
I love the change of pace of a Virgil Flowers novel compared to a Lucas Davenport novel. Another solid entry in the series as Virgil ends up in the middle of a campus academic fight while investigating the murder of the professor. Figuring out the killer was not difficult. Having said that getting to the finale was another enjoyable ride. Eric Conger is a first-rate narrator. My only complaint there were times when I wasn't sure who was talking, but it didn't happen often. I highly recommend Bloody Genius.

Mixed thoughts
Revisado: 04-09-19
Craig Johnson's writing is always superb, but in Depth of Winter, in the last third of the book, the characters, both Walt Longmire and the bad guys, make decisions which don't make a lot of sense to me. I still enjoyed the book and would recommend it to Longmire fans.

Great Start to a new Series
Revisado: 02-11-19
I found Shadowlith to be a great start to a new fantasy series ( I understand it to be a two book series). Alster is the kind of character who is easy to cheer for. I also like Thaman's take on a new type of monster and those who create them, the Shadowlith.
J. Scott Bennett is one of the best fantasy narrators in the game. Find and listen to anything he narrates. You won't be disappointed.

Historical Fiction at it's Finest
Revisado: 01-22-19
I'm a huge historical fiction fan and picked up These Honored Dead after meeting the author, Jonathan Putman. Many forget Lincoln was a lawyer (among other things) before he entered politics and These Honored Dead dives into this part of Lincoln's life. We get to see things unfold through the eyes of Joshua Speed, a dry good store junior partner. Speed and Lincoln share a room and become friends. The murder mystery at the heart of the story is well developed and there are enough clues for the reader to figure out the "who did it" along with Speed. Most of the characters in the story were actual people in Lincoln's orbit and it was fun learning a bit of history along with an excellent mystery.
Narrator Lloyd James does a fantastic job giving life to each and every character. These Honored Dead comes highly recommended.

I thought the narration was spot on. My only real complaint is one of the choices made by the main character near the end of the book which seemed out of place, a choice the novel pivots upon. Otherwise a great YA read.

In the world of Warbreaker, each person is born endowed with the power of one Breath―which can be sold and collected by others, then used to Awaken objects and even corpses to do their bidding. A few individuals who die in glory return as gods, with the power of thousands of Breath, but no memory of their mortal lives―and are enthroned in the Court of Gods in Hallandren’s capital. To Vivenna and Siri, princesses of Idris, the abuse of Breath and the claim of the Returned to be gods are repugnant blasphemy.

John Rubinstein is the man
Revisado: 09-01-18
Jonathan Kellerman never fails to deliver in an Alex Delaware novel, but what makes the series for me is John Rubinstein's narration. I can't imagine anyone else bringing these characters to life other than Rubenstein. While I found some of the characters annoying (and that's the point) the story was well written and entertaining.
