Historia
Barely out of his 20s, Chester Hines knows the score. He's just another bug crawling through the streets of Detroit, waiting to be squashed under the heel of a system meant to keep a brother down. But with his old lady on his back, his only options are on the wrong side of the law. He didn't need a fortune-teller to tell him that sooner or later he'd end up in a system more brutal than the one that forced him there.

Great work
Revisado: 01-04-25
Even though this is fiction, it paints a picture of how justice is meted out in the US. This is a must-read for those who care about justice, especially blacks, so they learn how to navigate the justice system and avoid incarceration.

Historia
Lynch mobs, chain gangs, and popular views of black Southern criminals that defined the Jim Crow South are well known. We know less about the role of the urban North in shaping views of race and crime in American society. Chronicling the emergence of deeply embedded notions of black people as a dangerous race of criminals by explicit contrast to working-class whites and European immigrants, this fascinating book reveals the influence such ideas have had on urban development and social policies.

Must read book to understand blackness in America

I appreciate the effort and historical context Dr.Muhammad laid out for every single argument he made. Not only did he back all the stories with both sides of the argument but he made sure to explain why he believed one is wrong & the other right. The objectivity of the work is also amazing.
