Historia
At the turn of the 22nd century, scientists make a breakthrough in human spaceflight. Through a revolutionary method known as somaforming, astronauts can survive in hostile environments off Earth using synthetic biological supplementations. With the fragility of the body no longer a limiting factor, human beings are at last able to journey to neighboring exoplanets long known to harbor life. A team of these explorers, Ariadne O’Neill and her three crewmates, are hard at work in a planetary system 15 light-years from Sol, on a mission to ecologically survey four habitable worlds.

I loved this so much💕

It is cozy but also gave me fuel for “rabbit hole” study later and presented some cool ethical considerations. Quite literally like a love letter from a future inhabited by humans trying to do better.

I’m Ivy Giacometti, a nightclub singer from New York, but tonight, I’m masquerading as Miss Black. I’m visiting my friend Tessa who lives in New Orleans and we’ve just been busted for gate-crashing a masked party after Tessa pretends to know Countess Montgomery, the mysterious hostess. A charming and devilishly attractive stranger saves us from humiliation and ushers us inside, and it soon becomes clear that this is not the kind of party I was expecting.

This author is my absolute guilty pleasure between this and “Good Girl”. I can’t wait to read more of her stuff. I’ve just also learned I have to do so alone. Definitely not safe for public consumption.

Sellsword Des is traveling alone in a dry and dusty southern land after a spectacular bust-up with her best friend. She’s running low on coin, so when a former client, Karina, offers her a job leading her caravan’s security through brigand country, it feels like a gift. Des has done the route before, but she isn’t sure about leading solo. She recommends Cap, a rugged old mercenary, to head up the crew. Maybe she’ll even learn a thing or two about how to lead in between the delightful distraction of Karina’s flirtations and keeping the marauders at bay.

I liked the story. The end is… don’t read it if you have a job where there are lives in your hands at any point. It’s essentially all of the part where you eat yourself alive for something you didn’t do and none of the healing it takes to pull your head above water after. It’s well written and entertaining until the end.

Theirs was a love story for the ages: Rasabel, the captain of the guard living a life devoted to duty and honor. And Isolde, the woman of the territory hungry for more than society's requirements of a lady. In a world of swords and arrows, love was indefensible against obsession, lust and a cruel curse. For years, they searched for an end to their torment. When the alarm bells of Acadia ring, Rasabel goes home, but she is unwelcome.

Love this display of love💕
Revisado: 03-14-25
The trust and real love that is displayed in this couple fed my soul. Raza reminds me so much of my wife and we’ve been separated but responsibility for 2 years so this hit sort of deep. The little but important displays of love that are all you can do are perfect and the steadfast belief in eachother… it’s just so good.

I honestly didn’t expect much but it is such an intriguing and complete story. I honestly figured it would be smutty or something. It isn’t if you were wondering. It IS however a whirlwind of a short love story. It is so short but yet it doesn’t feel that short. It feels complete and never rushed. Some parts are predictable sure but it’s good anyway.

Historia
Maddileh is a knight. There aren’t many women in her line of work, and it often feels like the sneering and contempt from her peers is harder to stomach than the actual dragon slaying. But she’s a knight, and made of sterner stuff. A minor infraction forces her to redeem her honor in the most dramatic way possible, she must retrieve the fabled Fireborne Blade from its keeper, legendary dragon the White Lady, or die trying. If history tells us anything, it's that “die trying” is where to wager your coin.

Holy cliffhanger Batman

This story is so immersive I devoured it in a day and couldn’t sleep until it was done. From the very first chapter it caught me. I do, however, need super solid conclusions and closure. I get why it ends the way it does and it was still so good but it did make me want to pull my hair out a bit.

Historia
Captain Sabine Fleischer is a skilled and dedicated US Army surgeon deployed to a combat hospital in Afghanistan. She is also one of the thousands of troops who are forced to serve in silence because of the military's anti-gay policy of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell (DADT)". Usually driven and focused, Sabine finds that battles raging both inside and outside are making it more and more difficult for her to deal with her emotions. Dealing with loss and mortality, lack of privacy, sleep deprivation, loneliness, and the isolation forced on her by Don't Ask, Don't Tell are all taking their toll.

Expectations were low but it really delivered
Revisado: 09-20-24
Trigger warning for healthcare/combat ptsd though for healthcare it was a distant enough trigger it didn’t spin me out. I’ve had some years of healing and distance from the toughest of it by now though. For combat ptsd with IED’s or active duty combat medics/trauma center clinical staff who’ve gotten their hands dirty it might be pretty rough though. The writing makes it real enough for all of your senses it would probably make anything fresh get you a little lost. For me the gore and the way she talked herself through the trauma and the intrusive but unhelpful thoughts she had to swat away were intimately familiar but also just kinda part of what training teaches you.
Otherwise it was quite a throw back to the fear felt by friends and exes who were in the military before 2011 but set in a delicious love story. Problematic dynamic sure but I think they handled it like decent professional adults in an unfortunate situation plus dadt made those kinds of relationships oddly more likely from what I could tell.

I love the story. I can’t read solid books anymore because when my eyes get tired I can’t see and it happens within a few pages. As such I have incredible respect for all of the performers who make these stories accessible to me again. This narrators natural voice wasn’t quite what I have gotten used to which admittedly took a minute to adjust to. What she might… erm… lack… I guess in the usual voice tone she makes up for in imaginative story telling. Her characters have defined voices that are easy to recognize. I applaud the performance and love the stories of these passionate, courageous and fair sheild maidens and their love. I’ve wanted this story for years and checked for it regularly. Thank you for bringing it to life for me💕💕
