Okay stories, terrible narration
Revisado: 05-13-23
The on/off hesitation and the up and down volume make this incredibly difficult to understand. Stories are interesting, if a bit under-detailed in some cases. Overall can’t recommend it.

Tediously long meandering purposeless tale though comes together above average at the end

Overall okay but has some inconsistencies of characters and thought and some segments that are difficult to bear with to their end.

Historia
Most children go through a dinosaur phase. Learning all the tongue-twisting names, picking favourites based on ferocity, armour, or sheer size. For many kids this love of ‘terrible lizards’ fizzles out at some point between starting and leaving primary school. All those fancy names slowly forgotten, no longer any need for a favourite. For all those child dino fanatics who didn’t grow up to become paleontologists, dinosaurs seem like something out of mythology. They are dragons, pictures in books, abstract, other, extinct.

Good sucker punch with the global warming. I was just beginning to think it really was about dinosaurs.

Interesting old book
Revisado: 02-01-20
Good basic story. Some translation issues. Reader for this version is way too staccato for pleasurable listening.

Clever story but agonizing to get through
Revisado: 03-27-18
BM comes up with some interesting stories but wastes so much effort on how the hero /plan is probably going to fail. It gets tedious to get through the story. I just glad when it finally ends.

Historia
The Night Gardener follows two abandoned Irish siblings who travel to work as servants at a creepy, crumbling English manor house. But the house and its family are not quite what they seem. Soon the children are confronted by a mysterious spectre and an ancient curse that threatens their very lives. With Auxier’s exquisite command of language, The Night Gardener is a mesmerizing read and a classic in the making.

Not a bad story, just poorly presented
Revisado: 01-19-16
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Reasonable enough
Who was your favorite character and why?
The heroine. She is smart and clever most of the time.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Intonation is off about 60% of the time. Makes it hard to understand and follow the story. This narrator is obviously more interested in just saying the right words than in saying the words right. Loses the opportunity of building the potential of the story. Many of the pauses between sentences are too long or too short so that it totally detracts from the story. With the mix of distractions, it is like riding a bumpy road on your ears. Incredibly distracting and you find yourself wishing you could just take a different path.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Would be interested for the story but would let others see it first and if they reported the production was as bad as the book, I would stay away.

Don't understand who gave it the high stats
Revisado: 12-12-15
What would have made Locke & Key better?
a smoother flow to the story; no (or at least less) swearing; cut the gratuitous violence; Make it so we can actually follow the sound track the first time.
Would you ever listen to anything by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez again?
Doubt it. The attempt to put a bunch of mature swearing into the kids characters just made it sound ridiculous. Sure, some kids talk like that but no one wants to listen to them in real life either.
What didn’t you like about the narrators’s performance?
The single narrator was ok, probably 3/5 but with the other distractions, it was poor.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
time waster
Any additional comments?
All the background sound effects just muffle the story and make it difficult to understand
