Historia
A young, naïve but ultimately courageous hedge knight, Ser Duncan the Tall towers above his rivals—in stature if not experience. Tagging along is his diminutive squire, a boy called Egg—whose true name is hidden from all he and Dunk encounter. Though more improbable heroes may not be found in all of Westeros, great destinies lay ahead for these two . . . as do powerful foes, royal intrigue, and outrageous exploits. Featuring more than 160 all-new illustrations by Gary Gianni, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a must-have collection that proves chivalry isn’t dead—yet.

A short but great story in the Fire and Ice world
Revisado: 03-19-23
"Shorter" doesn't necessarily mean "worse". A great story that hooks one from the beginning.
Perhaps slightly more innocent than other books by R.R.Martin, one could say it's targeted at younger adults or maybe teenagers. Anyway, I think it is enjoyable by all age groups, and I don't want to say much more about it for the sake of not spoiling it.

This is a tale of sorrow, a tale of survival, a tale of one man's search for meaning in his universe, and how that search, and the indomitable will that drove it, gave birth to a legend.

Harry Potter but for teenagers
Revisado: 01-12-23
... so, in summary, Harry Potter it is.
I was a bit misled by the reviews, thinking that this would be a more nuanced story than what it turned out.
A young but very talented lad who wants to get into the wizard's school... sorry, the "university".
I like how the book goes out of its way to really insist that this is not yet another Harry Potter in a wink to "other hero stories"... and then proceeds to tell exactly that story.
Ah, but this is more for grown-ups, because it has a love story that will only sound believable to somebody who hasn't been involved in a relationship ever in their lives. Ugh...

More Sandman and more Neil Gaiman, and I am here for it.
Elaborating more on Orpheus and Delirium this time, however I would have liked (and I loved) this Third Act almost regardless.
So I am an unconditional. Take my opinion with a grain of salt.

Historia

Historia
Bruce Lee is a cultural icon, renowned the world over for his martial arts and film legacy. But Lee was also a deeply philosophical thinker, learning at an early age that martial arts are more than just an exercise in physical discipline - they are an apt metaphor for living a fully realized life. Now, in Be Water, My Friend, Lee’s daughter, Shannon, shares the concepts at the core of his philosophies, showing how they can serve as tools of personal growth and self-actualization.

Good summary of Bruce Lee's philosophy, which boils down to what's called "Eastern philosophy" in many cases.
If you are already familiarized with the before mentioned "Eastern philosophy", then there is nothing new to see here.
If you are here for the Bruce Lee, you will most probably like it.

Epic in all the right ways
Revisado: 12-13-22
An incredibly ambitious novel, featuring English, Dutch, Portuguese, Spaniards and of course the absolute stars of the show, the Japanese.
A story deserving of a full cast, although this narrator is just a superhero.
For some reason, the incredibly long duration of this narration won't be a problem, because it hooks one so much, that one doesn't notice the time passing by.
A great summer novel, or winter novel, or anytime-you-have-free-time novel, really.

Zero day: a software bug that allows a hacker to break in and scamper through the world’s computer networks invisibly until discovered. One of the most coveted tools in a spy's arsenal, a zero day has the power to tap into any iPhone, dismantle safety controls at a chemical plant and shut down the power in an entire nation - just ask the Ukraine. Zero days are the blood diamonds of the security trade, pursued by nation states, defence contractors, cybercriminals and security defenders alike. In this market, governments aren’t regulators; they are clients.

SCI-FI crack
Revisado: 10-28-22
Some of us can tell when a book is made to sell (like this one), when we start to read too much of what we want to read. Or, in this case, when the audiobook tells us too much of what we want to hear.
Not necessarily a bad thing. Of course, this makes the book incredibly addictive, and I must admit that Andy Weir has found a very good way of narrating a story, so that the protagonist can find out about the story at the same time as the reader. This fits perfectly the Hollywood film that is surely to follow.
This must look like a great story for you, if you happen to be a Caucasian, male, 12-years-old (mentally), science teacher. Or maybe if you are only 12 years old, but you already identify as a white Caucasian science teacher. The narrator does an absolutely outstanding job, especially considering the horrible main character that he has to work with.
For the rest of you out there, who happen not to be a white Caucasian male science teacher, nor a strong-Dutch-female, this book might still be interesting, in that it can inspire a lot of scientific curiosity, which is always a good thing.

Historia
It is one of the most well-known and well-loved fantasy epics of the twentieth century: the story of Elric, emperor of the dying kingdom of Melniboné. For a hundred centuries the Melnibonéans have ruled from the Dragon Isle of Imrryr. Now, after years of corruption and decadence, Elric’s amoral cousin Prince Yyrkoon, the brother of his beloved Cymoril, sets his eyes on the Ruby Throne. Elric must face his treacherous cousin not as a warrior but as a sorcerer king once again in league with the ancient gods of Melniboné, the Chaos Lords, and thus sealing his inexorable fate.

Tales of the millenium
Revisado: 05-27-22
A great compilation of Elric stories, ordered chronologically with respect to Elric's timeline.
To me, it was a great coming back to this fascinating character, of which maybe many of us have read some books here and there, but very few of us have sat down and read the "whole thing". Part of the reason is that, back in the day, these books had various degrees of popularity, and they could only be found in specialized bookstores to begin with. Therefore, the work put into this volume is very much appreciated.
I must say some stories are much better than others. One can notice the style of the writer drastically improving, depending on the story. Also, most of the stories really cry out for a comic book adaptation.
Now, on to the important stuff. Elric itself is a tech enthusiast, and here we read about his adventures with his favourite gadget, Stormbringer.
Ever since Elric manages to grab Stormbringer after a very difficult queueing process and in the middle of an atrocious silicon shortage, Stormbringer quickly becomes Elric's daily driver, his favourite piece of tech that he owns, and quite possibly his endgame gear.
Unsurprisingly, Stormbringer's manufacturers quickly realize the success of their product and keep finding more and more means of monetization through it. As our hero becomes more and more dependent on Stormbringer, he begins to get buried under all new kinds of microtransactions, and other not-so-small transactions.
A very relatable character, indeed.
