Historia
In the summer of 1985, a brilliant young British DNA scientist Helena Greenwood is found murdered in her front garden in a quiet suburb in California. The police believe they know the killer’s identity but there’s no evidence against him, and the only thing linking him to the crime is the fact he’d been charged with sexually assaulting Helena just a few months previously.

Historia
“You shouldn’t be here. It’s too late....” These, heard over the phone, were the last recorded words of successful celebrity-divorce lawyer Richard Pryce, found bludgeoned to death in his bachelor pad with a bottle of wine - a 1982 Chateau Lafite worth £3,000, to be precise. Odd, considering he didn’t drink. Why this bottle? And why those words? And why was a three-digit number painted on the wall by the killer? And, most importantly, which of the man’s many, many enemies did the deed?

Ehhhh….so so
Revisado: 11-22-22
So, I just started getting into Anthony Horowitz through the TV series, Magpie Murders. Once I hear good writing, I literally absorb whatever I can of it. Thus, my wife and I immediately got into the book, Magpie Murders. That wasn’t enough for me. I read The Word is Murder and now have listened to this one, The Sentence is Death. Well, I liked it for the most part but I found his stumbling, fumbling way extremely problematic and, well, infuriating. I just feel that someone who does this much writing and is this worldly would not stand for such behavior from police. I mean, I get it. You have to move the story forward. Granted. However, at some point, it felt like reaching for anyone to respond the way he did in some of the situations. It was just annoying to me. Anyway, he’s still cool in my book so I’ll finish the series and continue to enjoy his work but this one, I would say, ehhh…so so.

I love these but…
Revisado: 07-09-22
So, I’ve listened to many of the books in this series. Since Daisy and Alec have married, the way he talks to her is really problematic for me. He’s supposed to be this cultured gentleman but he goes off on her a little too much for my taste buds. I’m going to take a break from listening for a bit because I can’t bear the way he talks to her and is suspicious of her before he has understanding. He jumps to conclusions before asking questions. He yells at her for calling him at work even though she only calls if it’s something she believes he needs to hear right away. He hangs up on her before he’s sure that she’s finished talking. Ugh, just frustrating. Not sure why this one, more than the others that it has happened in, set me off but I think I’m just growing weary of it. If you’re going to present them as having a good relationship, then have the husband speaking to his wife the way he does, it normalizes that kind of treatment. I love traveling with Daisy on her adventures but I simply can’t with how Alec treats her under the auspices of trying to protect her. Yeah, naw.

Historia
From the outside the parents of the kindergarten class at Darley Heights primary school seem to have it all. Living in the wealthy Sydney suburbs, it's a community where everyone knows each other - and secrets don't stay secret for long. The big date in the calendar is the school's annual fundraising trivia night, but when the evening gets raucously out of hand, talk turns to partner-swapping. Initially scandalised, it's not long before a group of parents make a reckless one-night-only pact. But in the harsh light of day, those involved must face the fallout of their behaviour.

Everything was cool except…
Revisado: 06-15-22
I really enjoyed this story. I loved Amanda, Zoe, and Victoria’s voices. Alice’s reader (and I do mean reader because there was no true characterization) was not fun. I felt my teeth being set on edge whenever there was an Alice chapter because the reader was truly terrible. She was so flat. Besides her, though, I listened to this over 10 hour story in less than two days. I just couldn’t wait to hear how it would end. I highly recommend it.

Historia
In the first line of Ocean State, we learn that a high school student was murdered, and we find out who did it. The story that unfolds from there with incredible momentum is thus one of the buildup to and fallout from the murder, told through the alternating perspectives of the four women at its heart. The murderer Angel, her mother Carol, and the victim Birdy, all come alive on the page as they converge in a climax both tragic and inevitable. Watching over it all is the retrospective testimony of Angel’s younger sister, Marie.

Good story
Revisado: 03-19-22
I read a preview of this book on LitHub before its release and the first line pulled me in. I was on pins and needles waiting to purchase it and it didn’t disappoint. I will say, however, that the direction it went in was—I don’t know—less than what I expected. Nevertheless, I truly appreciated the author’s ability to give insight into the pathos of the main characters. Also, the narration was pretty good. I would listen to her narrate again.

This was a whole audible credit, though. Why?
Revisado: 07-04-21
I like to think that I’m pretty, I don’t know, open minded, for lack of a better word or phrase. However, this book right here kinda got under my skin. It sucks. I hate to say it like that but it does. There were no real plots except in the last story, Satisfaction. I kept trying to understand the significance of things but found none. There were loads of details for detail’s sake. She tells us about picturing a piece of paper in all these different places. I don’t care! There were turned words and phrases, seemingly, simply for the sake of them. She ends most of the stories on these random notes and I’m left thinking, WTH? I don’t usually write reviews but this one low-key pissed me off. I had to say something. I pre-ordered this! I know it’s someone’s work and maybe it means a lot to her but I came away annoyed and pissed that I used a whole audible credit for this. The narrator did her thing so I guess that’s something.

Through decades of music by one of the best-selling musicians of all time, who created classics like "Fire and Rain" and "Carolina in My Mind", James Taylor has doled out his history in the poetry of his work. Taylor says his early life is, "the source of many of my songs", and Break Shot is a tour of his first 21 years in rich, new detail.

This book was sooo good. I really appreciated it. I appreciated the honesty and the transparency. I also appreciated his acknowledgment of his white privilege and how his mother fought for civil rights for descendants of chattel slavery (my term, not his). I loved hearing his story. He told it well. He had my rapt attention. It made me remember afresh that we have a loving God who takes care of us no matter what. Good stuff.
