Historia
Thirtysomething Flores and her mother, Paula, still live in the same Brooklyn apartment, but that may be the only thing they have in common. It’s been nearly three years since they lost beloved husband and father Martín, who had always been the bridge between them. One day, cleaning beneath his urn, Flores discovers a note written in her mother’s handwriting: Perdóname si te falle. Recuerda que siempre te quise. (“Forgive me if I failed you. Remember that I always loved you.”) But what would Paula need forgiveness for?

Expected much more
Revisado: 01-22-24
Paula was an interesting character, but the only one. It was a description of day to day life at work. Boring!!! There was no breaking down of cultural barriers between Mom and daughter. I just expected more.

I felt cheated!
Revisado: 12-16-23
While this was an exciting book, the author gave built the character of Tricia from the thought processes going on in her head and her inner voice. This whole character build became a lie, she was not that person. That would have been fine if she weee lying to herself or multiple personality, but that is not the way it turned out. The author just lied to us through the characters thoughts to herself. There was no way to even have a clue about what happened in the end, and you could not go back and say” Oh, that’s why that happened in the beginning!” or “Wow, I should have seen that coming”. The other characters stayed true to their character. I just feel lied to by the author.

Terrible story
Revisado: 11-17-23
I can’t continue listening to this book. It is full of long monologues of a crazy ladies ramblings. Honestly get to the point!!!! It hurts me to listen to one of the main characters humiliate herself at every turn.

Great listen

This story kept me hanging on every word! It was a great love story as well as a great depiction of how little power women had in the past and how they were slaves of their own reputation.

Historia
Investigative journalist Laura Chambers is back in her tiny hometown of Hillsborough, North Carolina, the one place she swore never to return. Fired from The Boston Globe, her career in shambles, she reluctantly takes a job with the local paper. The work is simple, unimportant, and worst of all, boring - at least until a missing girl turns up dead, the body impeccably clean, dressed to be the picture of innocence. Years earlier, 10-year-old Patty Finch left home and never made it back. But for the people of Hillsborough, Patty was just the beginning.

Narrator ruined the book
Revisado: 09-14-21
I don’t really know how much I liked this book because narration was annoying. Laura Jennings spoke in a whisper voice that was slightly monotone. Her characters all sounded the same so I was unaware much of the time who was talking when it came to dialogue.
