Historia
Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

Jim Dale brings the pages to life
Revisado: 03-31-19
What a wonderful medley of authorship, story, plot interlaced between books that were years apart from publication, and the vocal performance of Jim Dale. There are those who attempt and those that just hack through a script. They are monolithic in nature destroying the book. Then there are gifted artisans such as Jim Dale who raises the book to new levels of existence. Rowling is a superior author but with Dale's performance, the listener is given a whole new rendering of Harry Potter and his adventures.

Sometimes the worst storms aren't from Mother Nature, and sometimes the worst nightmares aren't the ones in our heads. Mike Mitchell, an average New Yorker already struggling to keep his family together, suddenly finds himself fighting just to keep them alive when an increasingly bizarre string of disasters starts appearing on the world's news networks. As both the real world and the cyber world come crashing down, bending perception and reality, a monster snowstorm cuts New York off from the world, turning it into a wintry tomb where nothing is what it seems.

Really got us thinking
Revisado: 03-31-19
There are several things that we had "deemed" too old to keep. Half-way through this frozen hard-line we changed our minds. The biggest challenge is "man" - he can and is often a real self serving beast. Decisions made by the government also produce major problems for "us common folk" to deal. Thoroughly enjoyable but have plenty of hot chocolate and several extra warm blankets.

An unprecedented collaboration between President Bill Clinton and the world's best-selling novelist, James Patterson, The President Is Missing is a breathtaking story from the pinnacle of power.

So many are quick to fault anything and everything. Some people seemingly gain a sense of power from fault finding. Clinton has/had some personal weaknesses that lowered him in my standards BUT his presidential organization was strong and worked excellently as a lean, mean machine. Patterson is an excellent author that has knowledge and practical experience in consistently producing quality material. Having 37+ years as a secondary public school librarian, I never was concerned about the structure and reader holding power of Patterson's material. Remember, every rose is not perfect. It is often in the imperfections that greater beauty is discovered.
Is this title perfect - NO. Does it have merit - YES. Now the hard question: Am I a better person having invested my time and energy in reading, ponder both the text AND the sub-text - honestly, I must say YES. Enough said. Read/listen and seek for the gems that are there to behold. if you are willing ...

Here comes the ARK, again
Revisado: 09-15-18
It was really well written and performed, however, I personally thought the ending was lame. To me the author simply didn't allow the characters that had been developed into strong individuals who became stronger working together, said: "well, that was 'nice' but I would rather wander aimlessly. I would rather not continue through life as a working, loving team effort - see ya!"

Tries too hard and fails miseribly
Revisado: 09-14-18
The characters are cardboard: paper thin. The story attempts to be from the 1950's tough guys from Detroit - it fails completely. The author seeks to cover this weakness with tough language - language the characters can't justify. Sorry, but in my English class I would tell the student to either rewrite it or accept a D- (which would be a gift). One of my principals taught me, if you can give an A+, there is such thing as an F-. At some point the letter grade has to change to a number. The numbers say this book didn't make it. I want my money back!
