I finished because I needed to know the ending

Kristen Sieh is a fabulous narrator, but the character she plays (April) becomes so annoying that I didn't even really like Kristin by the end of the book -- which I know is kind of stupid. There were times when I LOVED the story -- pretty much the first few chapters and everything that happens in LA, and other times when I thought, "Can this just end, already?" But I finished, which is a lot for me when I don't totally love a book. Time is precious, and I typically move on, but this was just good enough to keep me listening to the end. If you like not too sciency science fiction and a story with a message (a rather pretentious, overwrought one, but a message just the same), this might be a good choice for you.

This book is full of so many incredible stories of the impact of institutional racism on our society. It's one of those "everyone needs to read it" books. I've recommended it so many people, and I've re-listened (more than once) to a few chapters so that I might speak knowledgeably about these issues.

I heard Seth Rogen interviewed by Terry Gross on Fresh Air, and I thought for sure I would never be able to listen to an entire audiobook of him talking. But I was wrong! You learn to love him, and I think the book is far better because it is read by him. It's hilarious and super interesting. A good in between book -- you know after you've listened to an amazing story and then you feel a little lost? I call these my palette cleansers, and this is an excellent one.

I have no doubt that I would love reading this book, but the voice of Marcellus makes it a MUST listen. So well done. Marin Ireland is also amazing, as always. After seeing the documentary, My Octopus Teacher, I thought it would be fun to listen to a story that involves a percipient 8-legged sea creature, and I was right. But this book is so much more! It's about friendship and finding family, both biological and chosen. It's just so good.

My ONLY criticism is that the older people in the story, who are in their late 60s/early 70s are written as aging in a way that seems a little off, at least based upon people I know in their 70s. Their ages are integral to the storyline, and it wouldn't have worked as well if they were older, but I still wish they had not all seemed a little silly. Regardless of this, Remarkably Bright Creatures is now one of my favorite listens, and although I have not eaten an octopus, as far as I know, I most certainly will NEVER eat one. I can't even look at them in the fish case at Whole Foods. Maybe you will feel the same.

Meh. Too much discussion of poop. Like a lot of it. I had recently finished Nobody's Fool (such a wonderful book!) when I chose this, and I was hoping for a mini version of that kind of fabulousness. No such luck.

I love Ann Patchett's writing so much, and this book is absolutely one of my favorites. Her essays inevitably make me laugh and/or cry (in a good way), and I've listened to or read so many of her books, I feel as though I know her. (Of course, I do not.) After I finish an amazing book, I come back to this one to hear just a few of Ann's stories before I choose another long listen.

It is rare that I read or listen to a mystery or thrilled that I can't predict what is going to happen early on, at at least before it actually does. This book was full of stereotypes, but there were some twists that I didn't see coming, which made it a little more fun. I LOVE Marin Ireland as a narrator -- she's always amazing. Karissa Vacker is fine when she speaks as a woman, but all of her men sound the same -- creepy -- even if they're not.

In just over an hour, the author takes us deep into the life and heart of a Nigerian woman having her first child. The relationships are well developed and so real. It definitely left me wanting to know more. The narration was spectacular.

What a wonderful, unusual book! I loved that it was a little bit of a mystery, but mostly a story about the lives of interesting and complicated people, all unlike me culturally, but not so different really, once you get to know them. It's such an expansive tale -- beginning in the 50s and ending in the late 2010s, and traveling from the Caribbean to the UK and the US. The narrators were outstanding, and the story kept me engaged from beginning to end. Plus, it made my mouth water for a Black Cake (which I have never actually tasted). Definitely listen to this book -- it's fabulous!

Yep. By the end of this book I felt like I needed to meet this guy. The stories are awesome, and he does a great job telling them. Yes, he’s a bit cocky, but so what. This is a fun listen.
