I really have enjoyed this author/narrators voice! it's soothing, enjoyable. the book is broken up into several cohesive Lectures. the analogies are memorable, lots of good science going on here to learn from which makes it all super-interesting! I'm not a scientist myself, just a parent with a career as a CPA, but I found it to be exactly what I was looking for. The first few Lectures she related various topics of Adolescent brains to Toddler brains, which were enjoyable as I have a 16 year old and a 4 year old presently. The gender chapter was my least favorite. Another favorite after that was the lecture about peers. It really forced me to recall my own risky behaviors when I was a 16-23 year old, honestly.

This book should have disclosed in the description that she runs her practice religiously. She gives religious advice such as praying. It's a good thing I listened for free and didn't buy this audiobook, or I would have been very upset and I would have requested a refund for sure. I do now notice while leaving a review that it says "Christianaudio" in sideways print on the image, but this was not listed anywhere in the disclosure. I did listen to the whole audiobook but skimmed some parts that were overly religious - it was an audiobook with platitudes, anecdotal stories, generalizations, and limited scientific research (the sources and studies she did cite were related parties to her, as in, other agencies and clinical offices she's partnered with). She repeatedly refers to worry as the "worry monster". The audiobook is divided into three sections 1) Understanding - which was generalizations and things we already know, basics we've all heard before. Good reminders, but no good help for the worried daughter in this section. 2) Help - there were some good tactics in here, but nothing I've not heard of before. She references Square Breathing and other forms of meditation such as prayer. The few studies that were cited were in this section. I did get a bit of strategies from this section. Such as how our amygdala underreacts and overestimates, so to say, "Is that your worry talking, or is that you?" Reassuring her catastrophic thinking is a no-go. 3) Hope - this section was filled with scripture. this section was an hour and a half and I skipped through most of its platitudes.
