Historia
Maine, 1789: When the Kennebec River freezes, entombing a man in the ice, Martha Ballard is summoned to examine the body and determine cause of death. As a midwife and healer, she is privy to much of what goes on behind closed doors in Hallowell. Her diary is a record of every birth and death, crime and debacle that unfolds in the close-knit community. Months earlier, Martha documented the details of an alleged rape committed by two of the town’s most respected gentlemen—one of whom has now been found dead in the ice.

Historia
An icon remembered as vividly in death as she appeared in life, Diana, Princess of Wales, is one of the most enduring personalities of the 20th century, and one of the most enigmatic. Admired, almost worshipped, a forceful presence in society and fashion and a devoted mother, she was also plagued by rumor and scandal throughout her brief life. Using exclusive new interviews and eyewitness testimony, Sarah Bradford now casts aside the gossip and lies to separate myth from truth.

What I loved most was that this book has points that are truly unflattering to the princess but they are none the less a part of her life. I enjoyed this book

Revisado: 03-28-25
I enjoyed hearing about JFK Jr. from a friends perspective. It’s honest and at times unflattering. It allows us to feel the human side of who seemed to be a god like figure. It was a good read.

She tells her story just the way we’ve always heard her talk and I love that. I was stunned to hear of all the adversity she overcame. It is no surprise though that she persevered. Part 2 can’t come fast enough!

Historia
Viktor E. Frankl was a medical doctor at a psychiatric hospital in 1942 when he became a prisoner in Nazi concentration camps in World War II. In 1946, he published this book about his camp experiences and a method of psychotherapy he developed. Forty-five years later, it was still named one of the most influential books in the United States. Part One describes his three years in four Nazi concentration camps, which took the lives of his wife, father, mother, and brother. He closely observed inmates’ reactions to their situation, as well as how survivors came to terms with their liberation.

Enjoyed this book
Revisado: 01-29-25
While I wasn’t prepared for much of the details about concentration camps, I did enjoy the story and the later chapters which discuss so much psychoanalysis of individual experiences and outcomes resulting from positive attitudes and choices. In particular the message about everyone having a purpose in life. This book isn’t for everyone but worth it for someone looking for methods in understanding of their own life

I’m always intrigued by guilded age stories. Learning about the details of lives of those American royal families, who seem so untouchable and larger than life, offers a perspective which makes them more human than we all may not have guessed

When Victor Villaseñor stood at the podium and looked at the group of teachers amassed before him, he became enraged. He had never spoken in public before. His mind was flooded with childhood memories filled with humiliation, misunderstanding, and abuse at the hands of his teachers. With his heart pounding, he began to speak of these incidents. To his disbelief, the teachers before him responded to his embittered recollection with a standing ovation. Many could not contain their own tears.

It was and to a lesser extent today, a real thing. I’m happy that he persevered and ultimately shared his story. He deserved to be heard and appreciated
