Feels like a ripoff; half a book for the price of a full book

These last two books should have been one. Peace talks seeks like a prelude to the actual story in Battle Ground. Kinda sad to see this happening to this awesome series.

Revisado: 09-18-19
Freeman was the wrong choice. He comes across as bored 90% of the time and annoying the other 10. His Quordlepleen is TERRIBLE. I love the books but I won't be buying any of the others that he narrates.

The Winter Queen of Faerie has manipulated Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden into accepting a case to solve a murder and stop a war between the courts of Summer and Winter that could have literally earth shattering consequences. His own soul is up for grabs. Dresden must dig deep to discover that at time a willingness to accept a little help from your friends, be they a cub pack of werewolves, old loves in sheep's clothing, or a battalion of pizza loving dewdrop fairies, is a very good thing.

First in the series that I didn't like.
Revisado: 11-12-14
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Not really... the multiple confusing characters with similar names was its downfall. Didn't really care about any of the characters. Plot was kinda messy.
What about James Marsters’s performance did you like?
He's great as always.
Was Summer Knight worth the listening time?
No; it's the first in the series that I just wanted to be over.

Very dull, verrrrryyyyy slllooooooowwwww..
Revisado: 06-05-14
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Not really. Brick is excellent but the book is just very weak. Nothing happens. Clancy rambles on and on interminably about communism. Then another character starts thinking about it and we get to hear the same diatribes all over again. Repeat ad nauseum. Very boring.
What was most disappointing about Tom Clancy’s story?
What story? Nothing really happens. The entire "plot" would be the subject of one chapter in another of his books. This book is really not worthy of Clancy in my opinion. Furthermore, Jack Ryan comes across as more of a loudmouthed jerk in this book compared to his other adventures, where he's more circumspect and not as profane. This entire book just seems incongruous with Clancy's oeuvre (there... I get a nickel for using "oeuvre").
What about Scott Brick’s performance did you like?
He's one of the better narrators and does excellently with all types of accents (at least to my American ear). His Brit could stand some polishing up, but it's not laughable like some narrators' attempts.
Was Red Rabbit worth the listening time?
No... I think I'd not bother with this one if I could choose again.

Colombian drug lords, bored with Uncle Sam's hectoring, assassinate the head of the FBI. The message is clear: Bug off! At what point do these druggies threaten national security? When can a nation act against its enemies? These are questions Jack Ryan must answer because someone has quietly stepped over the line. Does anyone know who the real enemy is? How much action is too much? Which lines have been crossed? Ryan and his "dark side", a shadowy field officer known only as Mr. Clark, are charged with finding out.

A good solid Clancy book, good narration
Revisado: 06-05-14
What did you love best about Clear and Present Danger?
The plot was involved and the characters were interesting.
What did you like best about this story?
I liked the intrigue with the Navy and the local cops.
What does Michael Prichard bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
His narration is competent but not my favorite. It doesn't distract from the story but he seems a bit stuffy at times. Definitely not among the worst I've heard but not among the best either.

What did you love best about Patriot Games?
Good plot, good character development, story moved quickly enough to keep interest.
Which character – as performed by Scott Brick – was your favorite?
The Irish characters were satisfactorily performed to my American ear, though I wager a true native would cringe at his foibles.

Somewhere under the freezing Atlantic, a Soviet sub commander has just made a fateful decision. The Red October is heading west. The Americans want her. The Russians want her back. The chase for the highly advanced nuclear submarine is on—and there’s only one man who can find her. Brilliant CIA analyst Jack Ryan has little interest in fieldwork, but when covert photographs of Red October land on his desk, Ryan soon finds himself in the middle of a high-stakes game of hide-and-seek played by two world powers—a game that could end in all-out war.

Narrator is annoying, story not as in-depth
Revisado: 04-24-14
What did you like best about The Hunt for Red October? What did you like least?
The plot is not as involved, nor the character development as detailed as later Clancy works. I don't really feel like we get to know much about Ryan. He's also not as crucial a character in this story. Which is weird, as he's kinda the main guy.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Sure, but not as much as later Clancy works. I actually prefer the film version of the story, which is highly unusual for me. In the film, Ryan is much more crucial to the events and more capable. In the book he's kinda just wandering around.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
His accents are LAUGHABLE, particularly his "southern" attempt. It sounds like a bad cartoon. I mean, REALLY BAD.
Did The Hunt for Red October inspire you to do anything?
Yes, buy the movie.
Any additional comments?
Narrator is horrible; avoid in future.

A good thriller; Phillips isn't for me
Revisado: 01-17-14
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
I guess I'm weird, because the way Lou Diamond takes a quick little breath before each sentence was very distracting to me, and just about drove me batty. After a few minutes of each listening session I started to disregard it and focus on the story, but for a while I was annoyed almost to the point of turning off the recording.

Two men possess vital information on Russia's Star Wars missile defense system. One of them is Cardinal -- America's highest agent in the Kremlin -- and he's about to be terminated by the KGB. The other one is the American who can save Cardinal and lead the world to the brink of peace . . . or war. Here is author Tom Clancy's heart-stopping masterpiece -- a riveting novel about one of the most intriguing issues of our time.

Great story, bad narration
Revisado: 01-17-14
What did you love best about The Cardinal of the Kremlin?
It's a little slower than the typical Clancy, with more character development and less shoot'em'up, but I liked it a lot.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
The narrator was annoying to the point of almost intolerability at first, but I got used to it later, particularly as I got more engaged in the story. A different narrator would have been better.

Historia
Against all odds we have made it into the last half of the 1990s. The Cold War looks solved, Arabs and Jews are talking, confrontation is on the wane. In this new harmony, one discord - what becomes of unemployed terrorists? You can bet they aren't going to retire quietly. Shunned by the Soviets, isolated by Middle Eastern realignment, one cadre hits on a scheme to jump-start the war machine. It's brilliant in its simplicity. With a single act they bring the world to nuclear boil. Jack Ryan and Dan Murray sweat to defuse a cataclysmic response.

Scott Brick is great, story just good
Revisado: 01-17-14
What made the experience of listening to The Sum of All Fears the most enjoyable?
The narrator is great and the characters, particularly the bad guys, are written well and you find yourself caring about them. The plot is a little unbelievable by Clancy standards, but he can be forgiven for that.
Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Brick is one of my favorite readers... very capable in all regards. No distractions from the story.
