Historia
Prodigal Summer weaves together three stories of human love within a larger tapestry of lives in southern Appalachia. At the heart of these intertwined narratives is a den of coyotes that have recently migrated into the region. Deanna Wolfe, a reclusive wildlife biologist, watches them from an isolated mountain cabin where she is caught off-guard by Eddie Bondo, a young hunter who comes to invade her most private spaces and her solitary life.

So beautiful
Revisado: 01-25-23
Barbara Kingsolver has a soothing lilt in both her writing and her voice, making this one of the richest audiobooks I’ve ever experienced. I listened, learned, cried, laughed out loud, and I especially didn’t want it to end. I actually looked at a moth with an entirely new appreciation and respect today and wondered aloud where their mate must be, and what their scent felt like to one another. This book is truly a journey that I hope to continue throughout my life, it was that impactful.

Historia
Call it Kinsey Millhone in bad company. Call it a mystery without a murder, a treasure hunt without a map, a quest novel with truly mixed-up motives. Call it the return of Kinsey as a bad girl, quick-witted and quicksilvery, poking her nose into everybody's dirty laundry as she joins up with a modern-day Bonnie and Clyde in an Our Gang comedy that will take her halfway across the country and leave her with a major headache and an empty bank balance.

Overall it’s great
Revisado: 01-23-21
The only complaint I have is that the narrator should verify how to pronounce words that they’re not familiar with, especially if they’re getting paid to pronounce things, lol. Words like rifling that isn’t pronounced riff-ling and Wichita Mountains which is definitely not pronounced wuh-CHEETAH. I do voiceover work and I’d never just read something I’d never seen before without looking into it first. That’s just unprofessional.

Historia
Joe Talbert, Jr. has never once met his namesake. Now out of college, a cub reporter for the Associated Press in Minneapolis, he stumbles across a story describing the murder of a man named Joseph Talbert in a small town in southern Minnesota. Full of curiosity about whether this man might be his father, Joe is shocked to find that none of the town's residents have much to say about the dead man - other than that his death was long overdue....

I can’t get enough
Revisado: 06-22-20
I stumbled on this author and have devoured three of his books in less than two weeks! The stories are complex, but not so that they’re too difficult to follow. And the characters are rich and layered, with the tragic, but beautiful, complications that makes them so real. I am grateful for Allen Eskens and his resolve to tell beautiful stories with subjects that can make us uncomfortable, but compelled to look deep within ourselves. And the narrator is PHENOMENAL at making you believe you’re actually listening to dozens of different people, each with their own nuances. I can’t wait to read all of Eskens’s portfolio!
