Historia
In the spirit of Steve Jobs and Moneyball, Elon Musk is both an illuminating and authorized look at the extraordinary life of one of Silicon Valley's most exciting, unpredictable, and ambitious entrepreneurs - a real-life Tony Stark - and a fascinating exploration of the renewal of American invention and its new makers.

Fooled me at first
Revisado: 02-05-25
Upon rereading this book, I was taken back by the introduction on how Musk refused so many writers wanting to make this book and would insist on certain control about how it was written. I ignored this when listening to it years ago. The author tries to defend his integrity, but given how Elon Musk's image has evolved in the public eye, one is right to doubt that integrity survived this writing.
This book is prior to the greater success of SpaceX which was only ferrying cargo to space at the time. This book doesn't try to present Elon as some great innovator but what most people understand him to be. That being a tireless bully that pushes visions past peoples patience and will to resist.
History will certainly record Elon Musk far different and in stark contrast to what is written in this book. But, given his place in the world at the time of this writing, it's fairly accurate while glossing over some the pimples.

Historia
Stephanie Kelton's brilliant exploration of modern monetary theory (MMT) dramatically changes our understanding of how we can best deal with crucial issues ranging from poverty and inequality to creating jobs, expanding health care coverage, climate change, and building resilient infrastructure. Any ambitious proposal, however, inevitably runs into the buzz saw of how to find the money to pay for it, rooted in myths about deficits that are hobbling us as a country.

Not very detailed
Revisado: 01-14-25
I wanted a more detailed approach to the subject. Instead, this is a plain language introduction to a textbook that never comes. People do need a better explanation of this subject, but this is a printer and a sales pitch at best.

Historia
In the past decade, no individual act of violence has killed more people in the United States than the mass shooting. This well-researched, forcefully argued book answers some of the most pressing questions facing our society: Why do people go on killing sprees? Are gun-free zones magnets for deadly rampages? What can we do to curb the carnage of this disturbing form of firearm violence?

Essential Reading
Revisado: 02-17-18
This is the most clearly researched, detailed and open discussion of American mass violence I've read.
Though this book makes a clear argument for certain regulations and restrictions, it seems to avoid any political allegiance. It challenges the research, myths and proposals of think tanks, magazines and well known authors on both sides of the debate.
The author establishes clearer definitions and rules for building a more comprehensive data set regarding mass shootings and rampage violence than those that have come before. He explores several cases in extreme detail. The evolution of firearm technology is explored and shows how each evolution changes the game for the worst.
This is a very thought out case for ten steps as detailed by the author for closing loopholes in existing legislation, restricting certain technology and creating certain changes to the judicial system that would ultimately gain control over rampage violence.

Historia
With nearly 25 million citizens, a secretive totalitarian dictatorship, and active nuclear and ballistic missile weapons programs, North Korea presents some of the world's most difficult foreign policy challenges. In North Korea and the World, Clemens poses the question, "Can, should, and must we negotiate with a regime we regard as evil?" Weighing the needs of all the stakeholders, he concludes that the answer is yes. After assessing nine other policy options, he makes the case for engagement and negotiation with the regime.

Extremely Detailed
Revisado: 01-27-18
This book leaves nothing out in discussing the Korean problem. Beginning with the ancient history of the Korean peninsula and the development of their culture, philosophy and language, it moves through the early history with the Chinese and Japanese Dynansts to the early encounters with the USA. It explains the early Kim Dynasty, the unresolved USA Korean war and the developing nuclear problem. Following the Korean conflict the author discusses each and every negotiation effort in dealing with north Korea's human rights violations and quest for nuclear power. Mr. Clemens wraps up with the status of the Korean problem as of the end of 2015 and presents 10 possible resolutions.
The journey through this history was lengthy but rewarding. I will never think of this situation as a simple problem ever again.

Historia
At the dawn of World War I, the United States was only a rising power. Our reputation was relatively benign among Middle Easterners, who saw no imperial ambitions in our presence and were grateful for the educational and philanthropic services Americans provided. Yet by September 11, 2001, everything had changed. The United States had now become the unquestioned target of those bent on attacking the West for its perceived offenses against Islam. How and why did this transformation come about?

Historia
No subject is bigger than reality itself, and nothing is more challenging to understand, since what counts as reality is undergoing continual revision and has been for centuries. The quest to pin down what's real and what's illusory is both philosophical and scientific, a metaphysical search for ultimate reality that goes back to the ancient Greeks. For the last 400 years, this search has been increasingly guided by scientists, who create theories and test them in order to define and redefine reality.

Mind Blown
Revisado: 06-27-17
It was a warm starry night in ancient Greece...
I've been a student of science and philosophy my whole life. I thought I was aware of the current paradigm but discovered it was well past me. At times amazed, sometimes shocked, scared and excited.
I'm going to listen to this one over again.
