Historia
Despite constant efforts to declutter your home, do papers still accumulate like snowdrifts and clothes pile up like a tangled mess of noodles?Japanese cleaning consultant Marie Kondo takes tidying to a whole new level, promising that if you properly simplify and organize your home once, you'll never have to do it again. Most methods advocate a room-by-room or little-by-little approach, which doom you to pick away at your piles of stuff forever.

A Simple Solution for A Simple Life

What did you love best about The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up?
Kondo's humor comes out at times when discussing nameless old clients and their individual quirks. Marie Kondo describes objects almost as if they are alive and treats them with the respect that they are. Which may seem strange to some Westerners but the idea of an objects semi-sentience is very present in Japanese Shintoism, which makes sense considering Kondo's history as a shrine maiden in her native Japan.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The anecdotes about the authors younger self is quite charming. Indeed I imagine a young school aged Kondo coming hame and wanting nothing more then to find peace in her families home that she works tirelessly to tidy, (much to the dismay of her other relatives at time.) but she simply cannot because of all of her clutter. Its endearing the way she admits the faults and pitfalls of her adolescent fascination with tidying.
What does Emily Woo Zeller bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Overall I enjoyed Zeller and his voice however I found her to be less then expressive then what a scene could have warranted.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I definitely laughed at times. Kondo is like a sassy and educated older sister thats giving you tips on how to live better. Truly Kondo taught me to appreciate my space and my possessions and the work that they do for me and the impact our space and possessions can impact us in our life.
Any additional comments?
As of writing this, October in 2016 my house has remained tidy in the past two months since I have read this book and learned the KonMari method. In my wildest dreams I never imagined a book like this would even interest me let alone impact my life in such a positive way. If Audible produces the rest of her bibliography I would get them all in a heart beat.

A Fantastic Edition

What made the experience of listening to The Power of Myth: Programs 1-6 the most enjoyable?
Most definitley the quality and faithfulness to the original Television broadcast specials. Originally I watched this series during a Mythology course in High School and have been looking for it ever since.
What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?
The conversation between Bill Moyers and Joseph Campbell comes off as both authentic and organic in approach yet guided enough to provided insight and clarity on the stories, myths and legends gone over.
Which scene was your favorite?
Joseph Campbell began his mythological fascination with the stories and different cultures of the Native American peoples and it comes across quite strong in those moments of discussion.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
As always Joseph Campbell stresses his own personal life philosophy of "Follow Your Bliss" time and time again. While reminding us that these infuential stories and myths are meant to guide and inform not dictate and enforce our life coices.
Any additional comments?
Truly a phenomenal work from an important scholar. I would recomend this to anyone, both academic professionals and those who are new to Joseph Campbell and critical thought of world mythology.
