Historia
As far as Jennifer can remember, her father was abusive but her mother wasn’t always. She remembers a time when she felt loved by her mother. All that changed when Jennifer was 11. Her mother snapped and became a monster like her father was. Then they turned on her. Jennifer fought to become who she wanted to be, and not who her parents were trying to make her be. She refused to allow the torture change her, like it changed her mother. This is the story of Jennifer’s past, how she got through it, and how she survived it all.

Not what I was expecting. It should be a Christian testimonial category or something

Not at all to be mean or belittle the girls story. It is a decent story and she admits she wasn’t a great writer but the book was a Christian testimonial with sprinkles of the “true crime” story that her name is hung on. Description says “survived the unimaginable” but doesn’t give a lot of detail on what that was. It was overall flat but seems therapeutical for her.

Historia
Hugh Quarshie reads the extraordinary autobiography of Solomon Northup. His harrowing true story, first published in 1853, was a key factor in the national debate over slavery prior to the American Civil War, significantly changing public opinion on the topic of abolition. It tells the horrifying tale of Solomon Northup, an educated, free black man living with his wife and children in New York State, whose life takes an appalling turn when he is kidnapped, drugged and sold into slavery.

The tempo of the reader and his accents being authentic and not overly done or insulting.

Amazing story! I wish it never happened but an amazing testimony to wit, will, and fight to survive.
