Historia
It has a dark past - one in which a number of humans were killed. A past that caused it to christen itself "Murderbot." But it has only vague memories of the massacre that spawned that title, and it wants to know more. Teaming up with a Research Transport vessel named ART (you don't want to know what the "A" stands for), Murderbot heads to the mining facility where it went rogue.

A wonderfully robotic noir novel.

two novellas in and I'm officially on board with this series for the Long haul. The written performance is great, A noticed and appreciated improvement on the first novella. The storyline was a fun mystery, one that was never asking me to figure it out, just letting me come along for the light and entertaining ride. Nadine in these first two novellas has been incredibly revelatory, but I don't think it needs to be. instead it's just damn good fu.n

Historia
All Systems Red is the tense first science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans.

The beginning of a beautiful bookship
Revisado: 04-20-25
A novella that does a wonderful job of introducing readers to this setting. I enjoyed tye voice artist 's work on all fronts, with the exception of his voice for pinly. it just felt a little too forced the pros isn't particularly artistic, but neither is it boring. I would describe this novella as workmanlike in the best possible way, because it definitely Kat the job done. namely, the job of getting me interested in reading more of this series.

In June 1993, a group of young guerilla filmmakers spent four weeks making Horror Movie, a notorious, disturbing, art-house horror flick. The weird part? Only three of the film’s scenes were ever released to the public, but Horror Movie has nevertheless grown a rabid fanbase. Three decades later, Hollywood is pushing for a big budget reboot.

an audiobook MUST.
Revisado: 04-12-25
The act of consuming this story as an audiobook is in my opinion not only a convenient way, but the intended way to read it.
It is so nuanced and intentional in its audiobook format that I'm still puzzling over, and engaged with, certain aspects. The apparent script reading characters, for instance; who are they? are they reading at the first read-through? are they reading at a court deposition? are they not really there at all? how much of this unreliable narrator can we rely on for any part of the story? what are the most glaring examples of him taking us for a ride, and what are the ones you might think are lies but everyone else considers true?
overall, a fantastic Read that's going to stay with me. not because it was overly horrific or nightmare inducing, but because it tells such a love letter to those Titans of the genre that it stands tall unto itself.
and if anyone wants to answer those questions, or point me in the direction of a place that does, I sure wouldn't say no, lol.

Historia
For as long as medicine has been a practice, women's bodies have been treated like objects to be practiced on: examined and ignored, idealized and sexualized, shamed, subjugated, mutilated, and dismissed. The history of women’s healthcare is a story in which women themselves have too often been voiceless—a narrative instead written from the perspective of men who styled themselves as authorities on the female of the species, yet uninformed by women’s own voices, thoughts, fears, pain and experiences.

as a listener and fan of the medical history podcast sawbones, I he knew to a lot of these names and stories. but of course, a book such as this one can delve deeper and give more detail, insight, and ultimately rhetoric about the need for not only greater parity in medicine, but celebration of a more holistic view in the field.

Historia
The critically acclaimed author of The Radleys shares a clever, heartwarming, and darkly insightful novel about an alien who comes to Earth to save humans from themselves. When an extraterrestrial visitor arrives on Earth, his first impressions of the human species are less than positive. But as time goes on, he starts to realize there may be more to this weird species than he has been led to believe. Eventually, the narrator sees hope and redemption in the humans' imperfections and begins to question the very mission that brought him there.

Amazing reading, average book.
Revisado: 01-27-25
a great concept adequately explored, this novel. Gus, a few too many moments of contrivance, unexplained coincidence, or continuity errors for me to give it a really superlative score. however, it does have sam philosophical musings I enjoy and agree with, as well as never being borden to read once. I do wish there were a few specific conversations between certain characters and our alien in disguise that never happened, beyond everything else. the game by Mark Meadows kept me very engaged throughout.

Historia
The Christmas season has arrived in Lower Lockwood, and the Fairway Players are busy rehearsing their festive holiday production of Jack and the Beanstalk to raise money for a new church roof. But despite the season, goodwill is distinctly lacking among the amateur theater enthusiasts with petty rivalries, a possibly asbestos-filled beanstalk, and some perennially absent players behind the scenes. Of course, there’s also the matter of the dead body onstage. Who could possibly have had the victim on their naughty list?

Revisado: 12-15-24
I mean, what is there to say? Janice Hallett is a superlative writer, the standout star of my 2024 reading list. The audiobook actors were once again amazing, and performed the dozen or so characters with such skill that one could identify who was writing a text message before the third syllable was uttered. If you have an extra few hours for a good long holiday walk, spend it listening to this book.

peaks and valleys average into a enjoyable but middling experience.
Revisado: 12-06-24
the narrator is obviously talented, but the editing of her dialogue definitely seems low effort. there are numerous strange tone changes in her voice and volume that seem to indicate subpar production. the story itself is never boring, and in parts truly ripping. unfortunately, there is a fundamental level of self criticism, low self-esteem, and anxiety baked into the main character. she seems to swing between moments of great stubbornness, ignorance, insightfulness, and capability. the internal logic of the expedition sometimes strains credulity, especially given the at least token attempt at hard sci-fi. but a space who done it is an incredible concept, which the author admirably executes. would recommend to fans of sci-fi, mystery, and anime troops.

Kelefa Sanneh, one of the essential voices of our time on music and culture, has made a deep study of how popular music unites and divides us, charting the way genres become communities. In Major Labels, Sanneh distills a career’s worth of knowledge about music and musicians into a brilliant and omnivorous reckoning with popular music - as an art form (actually, a bunch of art forms), as a cultural and economic force, and as a tool that we use to build our identities.

this book gave me an education that I had, through needless neglect and unwillful sheltering, never received growing up. the author's work was erudite and informative without being dryly academic, and Riley humorous when appropriate. I would hardly recommend this book to anyone looking to either confirm, or broaden, their musical base of knowledge and opinion.

Among the ashes of a dying world, an agent of the Commandment finds a letter. It reads: Burn before reading. Thus begins an unlikely correspondence between two rival agents hellbent on securing the best possible future for their warring factions. Now, what began as a taunt, a battlefield boast, becomes something more. Something epic. Something romantic. Something that could change the past and the future. Except the discovery of their bond would mean the death of each of them. There’s still a war going on, after all. And someone has to win. That’s how war works, right?

the unflinching look into so many aspects of our modern day life tests you, dares you to look away. but the authors immaculate writing and characterization also snares you so completely that, once begun, this book cannot be put down. I recommend this for everyone who feels that the world can be better, should be better, and while this story does not give you all the answers, that is the point.
