Historia
In her new memoir Swimming for My Life (She Writes Press, October 11, 2022), Fairley tells the riveting true story of what she—and many other elite and female swimmers—endured on their teams. From abusive coaches and workouts that stretched the limits of what the body could endure to daily weigh-ins and extreme dieting, her journey brought not only triumph, but also trauma. And the trauma was not limited to the pool.

Excellent story and incredible narration
Revisado: 08-19-23
Loved every thing about this book! The narration was excellent and the story compelling. Having been a swimmer myself, it transported me back to the gritty, dysfunctional coaching of the 70’s. The author does an amazing job of using the backdrop of swimming to tell a story of a messy family you can’t help but love.

Historia
One small handwritten letter, sent from a dark, remote corner of the planet and lost in the system for 60 years, is about to change the entire human race. Outside Denver, Colorado, Joe Rickards stands over a small aircraft wreckage, studying burnt remains still smoldering in a field of freshly fallen snow. He's an investigator for the NTSB, working to carefully roll back the last several hours and identify the cause of the accident. But this time, he can't.

Great plot with a hook from page 1. I was listening to it and loved the narration and decided to get the kindle version (came with my kindle unlimited) so I could listen and then read over again to catch all the details. The characters are so likeable and the twists and turns of the narrative kept me looking for clues as to what was coming next. I’m sad it’s over! Such a good read/listen. The audible narrator is excellent!!

Historia
In an Ireland doubly ravaged by war and disease, Nurse Julia Power works at an understaffed hospital in the city center, where expectant mothers who have come down with the terrible new flu are quarantined together. Into Julia's regimented world step two outsiders - Doctor Kathleen Lynn, a rumored Rebel on the run from the police, and a young volunteer helper, Bridie Sweeney. In the darkness and intensity of this tiny ward, over three days, these women change each other's lives in unexpected ways.

So relevant and compelling! Narrator was exceptional

I chose to get this book on Audible because I had a credit. Once I started the story, I couldn’t “put it down,” and I did all my Thanksgiving cooking and cleaning as well as my daily walks consuming this story. Each character was so developed that I felt like an observer to the story right from inside the room. For me, the narrator made the experience of listening to the story especially powerful. Her voice is exquisite and the accents add so much texture to the setting. I will be recommending it to all my book loving friends!

Increbible Story that Captivated my entire family!

What made the experience of listening to The Best Land Under Heaven the most enjoyable?
My family listened to this book on a recent road trip from Texas to California and back. We loved travelling through some of the landscape that the book was set in. The author's ability to describe the historical aspects of the journey as well as the personalities and emotions of the characters made the book compelling to listen to for hours on end! We still talk about the characters and have a deeper appreciation for the pioneers of our country who risked everything to follow their dreams. Such a good read and family book!

Everyone needs to read this!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and I am having all of my clients read this book. It is so helpful in giving vocabulary to the process of giving and receiving an apology. The author uses many personal examples through out the book to illustrate her points, and I saw myself identified in both the helpful and unhelpful apologies. The book has definitely made me mindful of my words, and given me more intentionality in interactions with others. I have enjoyed dialoguing about it with my counseling clients as we workshop through their own situations.
Excellent resource!
