everyone should read or listen to this masterpiece
Revisado: 11-30-22
One of the hardest books to get through because of the subject matter but honestly one of the most worthwhile reads I have ever completed. It will test your humanity and make you look at the edge of an abyss most of us like to pretend doesn't exist and that is exactly why you should pick this novel up.

best book yet
Revisado: 05-09-22
Nemesis Games outshines the previous 4 books as it focuses on the main characters and gives some much needed personal development to the crew. It also recenters the storyline in a dynamic way instead of something that feels like filler (as book 4).
Read magnificently by Jefferson Mays.

Historia
The fourth book in the NYT best-selling Expanse series, Cibola Burn sees the crew of the Rocinante on a new frontier, as the rush to colonize the new planets threatens to outrun law and order and give way to war and chaos. Enter a new frontier. "An empty apartment, a missing family, that's creepy. But this is like finding a military base with no one on it. Fighters and tanks idling on the runway with no drivers. This is bad juju. Something wrong happened here. What you should do is tell everyone to leave".

Okay but a definitely low point in the series
Revisado: 04-21-22
Narrator is great again, he really does the series justice. Story is so-so - involves a lot of characters you don't really care about and the epilogue is the best part of it.
I hate to say this, but I think the tv show changes did the story more justice than original writing.
One final note: you'd think after 4 books the author would find a synonym for 'said.' Jim said, Naomi said, Amos said...good grief! You can begin with Jim said, followed by Naomi replied, Amos chimed in and Alex added. There are so many ways to have a dialogue more engaging than he said she said.

Historia
With its brilliant and brutal portrayal of the Corleone family, The Godfather burned its way into our national consciousness. This unforgettable saga of crime and corruption, passion and loyalty continues to stand the test of time, as the definitive novel of the Mafia underworld. A #1 New York Times bestseller in 1969, Mario Puzo's epic was turned into the incomparable film of the same name, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture. It is the original classic that has been often imitated, but never matched.

Historia
On May 1, 1915, with WWI entering its tenth month, a luxury ocean liner as richly appointed as an English country house sailed out of New York, bound for Liverpool, carrying a record number of children and infants. The passengers were surprisingly at ease, even though Germany had declared the seas around Britain to be a war zone. For months, German U-boats had brought terror to the North Atlantic.

Not as good as The Devil in the White City
Revisado: 04-21-20
If you bought this expecting another The Devil in the White City, it's not on the same level. DWC is much better about connecting historical dots and dramatisizing the Chicago World's Fair. Dead Wake tries to replicate that with some success and some failures. For instance, I do not care about Woodrow Wilson's love life and could have been spared him wooing his new wife. Much more interesting was the U-boat, Room 40, and the European political scene.

If you are listening to this are you even living?
Revisado: 12-19-19
One missed opportunity with the name puns: Woody's song from Toy Story "Strange things are happening to me." Maybe if there is a volume 2 it can be included.
Overall hilarious but the best is the first story. Adam Baldwin is an amazing narrator and I need to find more books to listen to read by him. I love the meta nature of the shorts and that they aren't afraid to poke fun at everything.

Historia
Set in present-day Los Angeles, Junk explores an epic conspiracy, one at work for thousands of years that involves total takeover of the planet Earth by aliens. In the wild, souped-up vision of Les Bohem - the acclaimed, Emmy-winning writer of the Steven Spielberg miniseries, Taken - the world is at the end stage of long-range plot that involves a gigantic genetic-engineering project. The aliens who have invaded us have no planet. No spaceship is coming. Instead, a small advance force comes, breeds, and dies - thus becoming an anomaly in our DNA that can’t be explained.

This book suffers from a lot of problems
Revisado: 04-23-19
To put it bluntly, this book was a wreck. I almost stopped listening to it but decided to persevere because the plot was intriguing of alien genetic mutation and the involvement of mythology. That being said, it was the only thing that kept me listening.
The performance was uniform and every voice was the same making it difficult to distinguish conversation between characters. At least it was read animated so the basic narration was tolerable. Even so, some characters had monlogues and then understanding what was narration and what was character development was impossible. Took me a while to realize that chapter intros were blog rants.
The expositioning could have been reduced severely. I quit counting how many times we had to be explained to in order for the plot to move forward. This is the symptom of the larger problem, in which every culture and conspiracy theory lead to an extremely convuluted plot. Was the illuminati needed? No. Were ancient Maori warriors integral? Not when it was for one assissination scene. Did the reincarnation aspect help move the story forward? It could have if it was written better.
Additionally, the leftist ideology and obvious anti-capitalist sentiments hindered the book instead of driving the narrative. When male characters tell you "the future is female" and others repeat that our need to consume is a relic of the alien DNA to destroy us it really drags the novel. How in the hell is buying, selling, and consuming alien?
My final bone to pick with Junk is that it is completely unbelievable. The book goes so bonkers that this shit couldn't possibly happen in real life. While the premise of alien DNA alteration is a stretch, it isn't out of the realm of possibility. However, tossing witches and warlocks into the plot then trying to make the Pluses more human by having a pair fall in love is absolutely ridiculous.
Thank God this book was free otherwise I would return it for my credit.

Zachary Quinto - best known for his role as the Nimoy-approved Spock in the recent Star Trek reboot and the menacing, power-stealing serial killer, Sylar, in Heroes - brings his well-earned sci-fi credentials and simmering intensity to this audio-exclusive novella from master storyteller John Scalzi. One day, not long from now, it becomes almost impossible to murder anyone - 999 times out of a thousand, anyone who is intentionally killed comes back. How? We don't know.

Great reader okay story
Revisado: 04-11-19
Zachary Quinto makes a great reader for this book. However, the story is a bit weak. The concept is great, that when people are murdered they come back, but the story was lackluster and reminded me a bit of Lock In. Made for a good listen while in a business trip since I didn't have to invest a lot in it.

Revisado: 02-12-19
Dramatization of novel means it's abridged. And not just one book abridged, but all four novels. The cast was great except when they were talking low or in whispers, the audio needs to be adjusted because you can't hear them.
