I thought I would like this book, because I usually like Virginia Henley, but this book, at times, just droned on and on with no real direction. I mean everything but the kitchen sink was thrown into this book with useless characters and useless subplots. I still had three hours to go and I felt like I’d already listened to two books worth of storyline. By this point I was done and totally bored. If you like a storyline that never seems to end, this is the book for you. I liked the narrator, but sometimes I had a difficult time distinguishing one character from another. It could be because there were so many tertiary characters it was difficult to keep up with so many people. I would not recommend this book.

The story would have been ok if it had not been for the narrator. The narrator had a very breathy voice, she paused too often and in inappropriate places, and pronounced words like she was trying a fancy British accent, but she just sounded ridiculous. I had to stop listening because it was way too annoying. If you can ignore the narrator, I’d recommend the story.

If you’ve heard or read the preceding book The Designs of Lord Randolph Cavanaugh, then you’ve heard this book. Same type of characters, same storyline, same type of suspense, and I do mean exactly the same, and for every character in the preceding book, there’s the exact same type of character in this book just with a different name and possibly a different gender. It’s really quite remarkable how Laurens just used the same storyline and gave it a new title. I’d suggest you save your money, it’s boring and repetitive. I used to love Stephanie Laurens, but if she’s just going to be regurgitate the same storyline, then I’m not wasting my money.

I refuse to read this author anymore. The “hero” slaps the heroine. He feels so bad and remorseful, but I would not listen past the slap. That is totally unacceptable to me. For a female author to include something like that in a book geared toward females, is appalling. I suggest you stay away from this book, if this bothers you as well.

If you don't mind a woman being raped and the emotional stress caused by the rape, then this is the book for you. I, personally, don't purchase a book to have to experience that through the heroine in the book. I like to be entertained and THIS was not entertaining.

I've really enjoyed Julia Quinn's books in the past, but this one for me was really lacking. The dialogue at the beginning was trite and somewhat irritating, nothing like I've seen from Julia Quinn in the past. For me, the two main characters just didn't mesh and the heroin was annoying and a total contradiction. The consistency problem Ms. Quinn has been having with her other books appears to be continuing in this one as well. For example, Alex never acknowledges he's courting Emma and never formally asked to court her, but later in the story he says he's courting her, but doesn't want to marry her. At that time period, in England, if he said he was courting her, then he had stated his intention to her guardian and he would have had every intention of marrying her. I actually stopped the recording twice to see if this WAS actually the author because it didn't seem like her at all. Her last few books totally lack her personality and I miss the Julia Quinn who wrote Romancing Mr. Briderton. I just hope the author goes back to her original writing style because I don't think I'll be purchasing any more of her books if they're anything like this one; she just seems like she's writing them to meet a deadline. I'm sadly disappointed, because this used to be one of my favorite authors.

I'm usually a huge fan of Julia Quinn, but this book was just so so. I was somewhat disappointed because it felt like she had a premise for a good story, but it took so long to get them declaring their love and just didn't feel like it went anywhere. Then it felt really rushed as if she was tired of writing or needed to meet a deadline and she just cut it off to be done with it, which left me thinking, "is that it?"

Smooth Talking Stranger Audiolibro Por Lisa Kleypas arte de portada

Good read, but terrible narrator!

I really enjoyed this 3rd installment of the Travis Family, but it was very hard getting over the awful narration. She tried to do a Texas drawl and she was so way off the mark that it just grated on my nerves. Her southern drawl was so guttural sounding it was as if the main character Jack Travis came off a chuck wagon instead of a smooth as glass drawl educated Texans are known for. Loved the book, but the narration was off on every level. I would give the story itself a 5 star, but the narration brought it down to 3 stars for me.

Horrible narrator

This is probably the worst audible book I have ever heard. The Australian accents were atrocious. They are so bad they just grate on the nerves. The two main characters sound so terrible that they sound like really bad imitations of British Cockney accents.I just couldn't listen to it after half an hour.
