Historia
At a time when toxic individualism is rending our society at every level, bestselling author and renowned marriage counselor Terrence Real sees how it poisons intimate relationships in his therapy practice, where he works with couples on the brink of disaster. The good news: Warmer, closer, more passionate relationships are possible if you have the right tools. In his transformative new book Us, Real brilliantly observes how our winner-takes-all culture infiltrates families with devastating results.

Historia
Anxiety among mothers is a growing but largely unrecognized crisis. In the transition to motherhood and the years that follow, countless women suffer from overwhelming feelings of fear, grief, and obsession that do not fit neatly within the outmoded category of “postpartum depression.” These women soon discover that there is precious little support or time for their care, even as expectations about what mothers should do and be continue to rise.

Beautiful. Informative. Deeply feeling.
Revisado: 06-17-21
I wanted to read this book to understand maternal anxiety and rage both for my own experience and working with my clients as a therapist. I was surprised at how incredibly informative it was particularly around the experience of women of color and history of birth in America. I often sound myself move to tears post by the intense stories that are contained and the way that they touched on my own experience as a mother. I highly recommend this book to all mothers and all health professionals.

Historia
One basic need all children have, educator Alfie Kohn argues, is to be loved unconditionally, to know that they will be accepted even if they screw up or fall short. Yet conventional approaches to parenting such as punishments (including "time outs"), rewards (including positive reinforcement), and other forms of control teach children that they are loved only when they please us or impress us. Kohn cites a body of powerful and largely unknown research detailing the damage caused by leading children to believe they must earn our approval.

Mind bending must for all parents.
Revisado: 07-28-20
As a therapist I thought I had a pretty good handle on positive parenting. This book absolutely blew my mind and challenged many of the concepts of acceptable or effective parenting strategies. I recommend this book to all parents as something to strive for.

Fantastic book for happier kids and parents.
Revisado: 09-07-19
This was a truly enjoyable book. I will absolutely be revisiting this as my kids grow. Many of the things discussed are things I have helped my therapy clients to do in their own lives with or without kids. The information is practical and approachable in a way that allows you to start incorporating it right away.
