Historia
Marc Headley provides an insider's view of life as a member of Scientology's "Sea Organization". Marc worked at Scientology's secret desert compound, which houses all Scientology management, for 15 years. The 500-acre property is located deep in the California desert. The local townspeople were told lectures and films were made there. But is that all that was happening? It is the location of a multi-million-dollar home for L. Ron Hubbard, built two decades after his death. It is the home of Scientology's current leader, David Miscavige.

a fascinating story of oppression
Revisado: 03-14-21
Engaging and fascinating. Even if you've heard a lot about scientology, it's still shocking to learn the behavior of this supposed religion.

Historia
Journalist Susan Casey was in her living room when she first glimpsed this strange place and its resident sharks, their dark fins swirling around a tiny boat in a documentary. These great whites were the alphas among alphas, the narrator said, some of them topping 18 feet in length, and each fall they congregated here off the northern California coast.

abridged version suffers
Revisado: 09-26-16
enjoyable but this was my first encounter with an abridged version. it's not cleverly done. they just chop out hunks, leaving you confused.
the story is OK. long parts are not about sharks but you feel her enthusiasm.

Historia
A young girl called Tozi stands at the bottom of a pyramid, waiting to be led to the top where her heart will be cut out.... Pepillo, a Spanish orphan who serves a sadistic Dominican friar, is aboard the Spanish fleet as it sails towards Mexico.... This is the epic story of the clash of two empires, two armies and two gods of war. Five hundred desperate adventurers are about to pit themselves against the most brutal armies of the ancient Americas, armies hundreds of thousands strong.

Pre-Hispanic Dickens?
Revisado: 09-15-16
What disappointed you about Nights of the Witch?
The reader uses English class accents to distinguish the characters. it's jarring. Why is the protagonist speaking in a cockney accent? it's set in pre-hispanic Mexico!
How could the performance have been better?
A straight reading or non British accent would have helped.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Nights of the Witch?
I'm not sure Moctezuma had the glee in taking human sacrifices as described in the book. A lot of this is up for debate and some suggest that the sacrifices were grossly exaggerated to justify the horrible looting and violence of the Spanish themselves.
Any additional comments?
I really was looking forward to this but I can't continue. It's too frustrating.

why is this not a movie?
Revisado: 09-03-16
or 40 movies? they're a lot of great stuff here.
pronunciation of some of the indigenous words and names are up for debate but on the whole, a lot of time we'll spent.
