I disliked the aggressive main character, Eve Dallas. So much swearing and biting replies. She hardly talks normally. Unnecessarily detailed and prolonged sex scenes as well - yawn. Thoroughly unpleasant. I could not finish.

Alice's story was interesting but the romantic scenes were boring, cringe-worthy and gratuitous. Will not listen to or read Nora Roberts again. And - spoiler alert - I would dearly have liked to know what happened to the poor old horse and cow once their owner had been killed.

Starts of really well, and you look forward to finding out how the main character solves his impossible dilemma. Then the answer to all the problems - spoiler alert! - turns out to be a repeat of the same act. The narrator was excellent.

I quite enjoyed the story but - spoiler alert- the ending was blunt and unsatisfactory. So much more could have been made of the final twist.
Also, the sex in the book - apart from the manuscript within the book, where it served a purpose - was excessive, unnecessary and repetetive.
