Historia
Twenty years ago, Ray Campbell, now a cautious risk-management consultant, was a well-intentioned aid worker dedicated to improving conditions in Lubanda, a newly independent African country. He is forced to reconsider that year of living dangerously when a friend from his time in Lubanda is found murdered in a New York alley. Signs suggest that this most recent tragedy is rooted in the far more distant one of Martine Aubert, the only woman Ray ever truly loved and whose fate he’d sealed in a moment of grievous error.

A Haunting Story of International Intrigue
Revisado: 05-17-15
What made the experience of listening to Dancer in the Dust the most enjoyable?
It's not often that an author can tackle a controversial topic in an unbiased fashion, but Thomas Cook did just that. At the conclusion of the book, I truly did not know Mr. Cook's personal position on aid to foreign countries, and that's a good thing. Too often I have found that novels are used as opinion pieces and it was a true pleasure to listen to a story unfold without feeling that there was a political agenda at stake.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Martine's strength of character is to admired even though it cost her her life. Her ability to see what would be best for her country, even if her own countrymen wouldn't admit it, proved to be her undoing.
Have you listened to any of Ray Chase’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Ray Chase is one of my favorite narrators. He seamlessly moves from one character to another without missing a beat. In a book such as Dancer in the Dust, there are many characters with varying accents and his narration makes it easy to distinguish them easily and effortlessly.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Back to Africa - an older, perhaps wiser man returns to discover the impact of the choices he made many years ago.
Any additional comments?
Thomas Cook has the ability to immerse you in his story. Paired with the excellent narration of Ray Chase, this is an audiobook that will keep your suspicions on high alert until the very end. I think I might just listen to it again and look for clues that I might have missed along the way. The ending was a surprise to me - but one that made perfect sense.

Historia
Frederick is a demon. Born in Maryland in the early 1980's, he hasn't a clue where he came from or why, but feels an irresistible desire to occupy a human body. Once inside, he finds the previous occupants' consciousness and memories forever erased, an inevitable side effect that gives Frederick pause when switching bodies, but not so much as to truly halt his ongoing enjoyment of human lives. In various bodies, he travels the world for decades - aimless - sampling cultures and experiencing life from the points of view of males, females, young, old, rich, poor.

Everyday Demons - Maybe You Know One!
Revisado: 01-04-15
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes! A Warm Place To Call Home crosses over into different genres and it's certain to appeal to a wide array of listeners. The imagination of the author, Michael Siemsen, is incredible and the performance of the narrator, Ray Chase, is outstanding.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Now that is a tricky question as anyone who has listened to the story already knows! Discovering exactly who each character truly is is half the fun of this book. I'll say that Frederick is my favorite character. Let's just leave it at that.
Have you listened to any of Ray Chase’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Ray Chase is one of my favorite voice actors. He consistently captures the essence of his characters and the pace and timing of his narration is always pitch perfect. For a real treat check out his portrayal of Boricio in Yesterday's Gone. Boricio is pure evil and whenever he speaks (through Chase's skilled voice) you can feel the terror that Boricio yields, even if he's doing something as mundane as eating a sandwich.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Demons amongst us - do you really know who's living in your house?
Any additional comments?
This story truly does keep you guessing until the end. It's told through the eyes of a mostly likeable demon and it kept me entertained and surprised throughout.

An Absolute Masterpiece!
Revisado: 09-28-14
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This review is for the entire First Season. I have already recommended the series to friends because it is totally captivating and incredibly entertaining.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Boricio is an easy favorite because of the uniqueness of his character but I was also intrigued by Ed. I suspected early on that there would be a "big reveal" about him and I wasn't disappointed.
What about the narrators’s performance did you like?
This was the first audiobook I've listened to that had multiple actors. Tamara Marston portrays female, male and juvenile voices to such perfection - it was a joy listening to her perform. Ray Chase's interpretation of Boricio depicts the sheer evil that is Boricio.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
In a word, yes!
Any additional comments?
I purchased each episode in Season 1 individually and that was a mistake. Purchase the complete season so that you can listen seamlessly from one episode to another. Every episode ends with a cliffhanger that will leave you on the edge of your seat. I didn't have to think twice when it came to purchasing Season 2 - I bought the complete set.

Historia
When Eila Doyle first sees the strange boy beckoning in whispers from somewhere deep in her imagination, she questioned her sanity. She was used to seeing strange things with her eyes closed - that's what Eila did all day while strapped to the Blunderbuss, building whatever the Ministry of Manifestation required - but never before have those images felt so real, or so dangerous. After Eila learns the terrible truth about her reality and the monsters inside it, she thinks that maybe madness might be her only escape.

Frightening and Intriguing
Revisado: 09-04-14
Where does The Dream Engine rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
The Dream Engine ranks very high amongst my collection of audiobooks. Although it's classified as a young adult adventure, I found it captivating, even though I'm far from being a young adult.
What did you like best about this story?
The imaginative scenes created by the authors left me awestruck!
Which scene was your favorite?
Because of the way the story unfolds, it is too difficult to choose just one scene as a favorite. The progression of Eila uncovering the reality of her family kept me glued to my Kindle.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
This is a book that I did not want to end. I enjoy a story that stays with me awhile - one that I can savor and return to again and again.
Any additional comments?
One of the things I particularly like about this book is the descriptive titles of each chapter. They are a tease to the listener of what is to come. The narrator, Ray Chase, does an excellent job interpreting the scenes and setting the tone for this imaginative adventure.

Historia
John Fell loves his family and gourmet cooking, and feels appropriately tormented by Keats, his rich girlfriend from the right side of the tracks. A normal life - normal, that is, until he meets Woodrow Pingree one night by ramming into the back of his Mitsubishi. Suddenly nothing will be the same. A poor boy is now a rich one at an exclusive prep school. A woman who's no longer a girl enters Fell's life with long kisses and no promises. He's paid to be someone he's not with a name that's no longer his own.

Easy Listening in an Audio Book

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely! It's an easy listen - the kind of book that you don't have to concentrate on to follow the story.
What did you like best about this story?
The characters in this book are easy to relate to. I found the imperfect mom refreshing and very realistic.
Have you listened to any of Ray Chase’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes. Ray Chase is one of my favorite narrators because the distinctive interpretations of his characters' voices make the books he narrates, very easy to follow.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No extreme reactions - it's just not that kind of a book.
Any additional comments?
Although Fell is described as a book for "young adults," as a "mature reader" I found the story compelling and the characters very true to life.

A Father's Search
Revisado: 06-02-14
If you could sum up The Whisper of Legends in three words, what would they be?
Adventure. Mystery. Betrayal.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Whisper of Legends?
This is a difficult question to answer without spoiling it for others. Cryptically speaking, the most memorable part of the story is when the clues to the group's whereabouts result in solving the mystery of their disappearance.
Have you listened to any of Ray Chase’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have listened to other books by Ray Chase. He always delivers an outstanding performance and this book is no exception. The voices of the characters are consistent, believable and true to the story, allowing the plot to easily unfold. I especially enjoy the pace of his narration.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It made me anxious! From very near the beginning of the book, there is no contact or word of the lost adventurers. I felt that they were lost to me also.
Any additional comments?
I found the descriptions of the Canadian wilderness fascinating.
