Not as good as previous installment, and not suitable for kids. My son and I loved listening to the first 2 books of this series (highly recommended), and I was excited to find this one - but am glad that I listened to it by myself first.

The narration by John Lee is still first-rate, but he has much less of a story to work with, so it's also nowhere as funny. And where the earlier books may occasionally make a mention of mildly racy topics, in this book the line is no longer drawn at an acceptable place for me to let my young son listen to it. I don't mean there's anything shockingly violent or sexual - it's just adult humor plus some promiscuous behaviors that I'd rather not have to explain during a car ride.

John Lee's performance absolutely brought the story and characters to life - much better than the movie version of the first story in this collection. There is an art to telling a humorous story with just the right amount of seriousness to make it even more hilarious, and it is achieved here to the highest level. This is an audiobook that my son wants to listen to over and over (and over), and that I really enjoy too.

I took off one star for Audible's "story" rating because the plot dragged a bit in the second story, but the writing is great all throughout and we were never bored listening to it (even for the Nth time).

Way too abridged!

This is a good book. I picked the abridged over the unabridged this time, because the abridged version is read by the author. But so much is missing! In the book, chapters of narratives end in Ruth's newspaper column, which serves as a conclusion for each story. Those are cut out (so the stories are left to dangle, without the readers knowing how her article turned out). The entire "umani" sushi experience is gone, as well as other great segments.

Stay with the unabridged! I am very sorry that I didn't.
