Historia
Retired lawyer Andy Carpenter’s calling has always been running the Tara Foundation. The dog rescue organization places hundreds of dogs in new homes every year. It’s added up to so many dogs and new owners that Andy can’t even do the math. But there’s one dog—and one owner—Andy will always remember. About a year ago, Rachel Morehouse came to the foundation looking for a companion. In her sixties and recently widowed, Rachel wanted a senior dog that also needed someone. Andy took a liking to her, Rachel took a liking to Lion, an older Chow Chow, and the rest is history.

How come these stories haven't been made into a TV series or movies??? All ofl the characters are great, but Marcus is the one I'd love to see the most--going from grunts to perfect diction. Keep up the good story telling, Mr
Rosenfelt.

The number one New York Times best seller by Pulitzer Prize-winning historian David McCullough rediscovers an important chapter in the American story that's "as resonant today as ever" (The Wall Street Journal) - the settling of the Northwest Territory by courageous pioneers who overcame incredible hardships to build a community based on ideals that would define our country.

Frontier: the word carries the inevitable scent of the West. But before Custer or Lewis and Clark, before the first Conestoga wagons rumbled across the Plains, it was the East that marked the frontier - the boundary between complex Native cultures and the first colonizing Europeans. Here is the older, wilder, darker history of a time when the land between the Atlantic and the Appalachians was contested ground - when radically different societies adopted and adapted the ways of the other, while struggling for control of what all considered to be their land.

Amazing!
Revisado: 10-27-21
I don't remember any of this history from high school or college! Glossed over, I'm sure in a couple paragraphs here and there. I read along with the audible. It helped some (I'm getting old; no fault of the writer or narrator) to hear the Indian, as well as, French, Spanish, Dutch and German names. And it seems to me, the narrator had the European accents down pat. He said the difficult Indian names with such confidence, too. I am in awe of the history of this era. I highly recommend this book. It's unflinching in its telling.

Derick Lugo had never been hiking. He certainly couldn't imagine going more than a day without manicuring his goatee. But with a job cut short and no immediate plans, this fixture of the New York comedy scene began to think about what he might do with months of free time. He had heard of the Appalachian Trail, but he had never seriously considered attempting to hike all 2,184.2 miles of it. Suddenly he found himself asking, Could he do it?

AWESOME
Revisado: 06-29-21
This is my 3rd book of Appalachian hikers, the first being Grandma Gatewood's Walk and the second Mary E. Davison's Old Lady on the Trail. All 3 were very different and inspiring in their own ways. Mr. Fabulous is awesome and he wrote a very positive account. Even though he had bad days, he wrote on such a way, you knew he'd get pass whatever the obstacle was. I really liked his narration, too.

Historia
Emma Gatewood told her family she was going on a walk and left her small Ohio hometown with a change of clothes and less than $200. The next anybody heard from her, this genteel, farm-reared, 67-year-old great-grandmother had walked 800 miles along the 2,050-mile Appalachian Trail. And in September 1955, atop Maine's Mount Katahdin, she sang the first verse of "America, the Beautiful" and proclaimed, "I said I'll do it, and I've done it."

best book I've read in a long time
Revisado: 06-28-21
This is the story of an extraordinary "ordinary" woman, who walked the complete Appalachian Trail at age 67 in 1955, and went on to do it again 2 more times and the Oregon Trail, to boot. The author did a fantastic job incorporating the story of the first time with her life's story and events going on in the world. I enjoyed the narrator for this book. I never bother with bookmarks usually, but i did here. I'm pretty sure I won't go back to use them so I ordered the paperback.
It sounds so cliché to say a book is inspirational, but this one and Old Lady on the Trail by Mary E Davison have revitalized my plans for retirement!

Although not a cozy, I am enjoying this series. I do enjoy the historical setting and Edinburgh. Very interesting characters. I don't like it whenever narrators change. I think I liked the first one, even though my American ears couldn't catch everything. Now I'm off to get #3!

I am starting to go through them a second time, I enjoyed them so much! Not every entry is a muder; interesting mysteries without a death, are mixed in, much to my delight. I didn't think I would like a two hour story, but I did. I kept trying to visualize a British TV series-- fun characters ,great location and great story-telling in a history-rich setting. Jack and Sarah make a fun team.
Hurry up with the audio to the latest entry!

Baby Ganish is the cat's meow!
Revisado: 12-16-19
Just listened to this a second time after completing the series so far. I enjoyed it even more the second time. I love all the main characters; character development is important to me and the author does a great job. (I don't love Rau, but he's a great character) I enjoyed the static-y sound of the telephone calls. Nice feature. The author is very adept at having very interesting sub-plots going on at the same time. The narrator was good at the narrative stretches, but I thought he made Inspector sound angry all the time, even when the text says, "he said softly". But that is a small criticism and maybe only to my American ear. The author delves into many of India's many sub- cultures in this series. We in the U.S. think we are diverse, but we don't hold a candle to India's diversity. I still can't decide if the adventures of this baby elephant are plausible in such an urban environment, or if taking him into a palace and shopping mall is just part of the author's imagination. Regardless, I love this series!
