Historia
Burr, Oklahoma, summer, 1976: On the eve of America’s Bicentennial celebration, a notorious local politician is assassinated at a campaign rally. The case seems open and shut; the killer—a young, anonymous homeless woman—is shot by police at the scene. With the death of the assassin, the lead investigator is content to write off the crime as a random act. Burr’s Chief of Police, Emmett Hardy, isn’t so sure.

How the connections between characters was made
Revisado: 07-29-24
I enjoyed not only this book but all five in the series. The story teller did an excellent job and had a pleasant voice. I liked the way the connections were made leaving you clear on all aspects of the story.

Historia
When an unknown young African American woman is found murdered on the railroad tracks outside town, most of Burr, Oklahoma, would rather look the other way. The town’s police chief, troubled local hero and ex-Marine Emmett Hardy, doesn’t have that luxury. In his search for the killer, he’s forced to slice through layers of hate and hypocrisy to confront the ethical rot at the town’s core while being haunted by the vision of a life and love that might have been.

I enjoyed the story it was entertaining a bit drawn out at times I am sure I would of enjoyed it 10 times more with a good reader I did not like him at all I felt like he did not do the book justice. I will not buy another book with him as the reader no matter how good I think it might be.

Excellent amazing writing and narration
Revisado: 03-03-18
I have been a Audible member for 2 years and have listen to 36 books many of them James Patterson and I must say this is my favorite. The Storie line was very entertaining and captive and the narrator delivers it great he has now become my favorite narrator I will seek out books that he has done. I am a crime novel lover being a officer myself I am sometimes critical of writers that put things in that in no way could be possible it is very obvious that James does his research when he tells a story the way he describes the technical law enforcement equipment is spot on which helps make it much more enjoyable to listen to. There is not enough good things I can say about this book or its narrator. All right I can tell you if you haven’t listen to it go now and get it you will not regret it. I usually only listen while I am driving but I got so into this book when I got out of my truck I put on my headphones and listen to the last 5 hours non stop I just couldn’t put it down.

Great story
Revisado: 07-25-17
I have listen to over 20 books and probably haven't written 5 or 6 reviews a book has to really hold my interest for me to write one. This series held my attention from beginning to end I found it hard to put down. The story has everything a good book needs its funny, sad, serious and heart warming it takes you to the edge many times them pulls you back. I well also look for books narrated by this person in the future as she did a great job. I get books to listen to while I am driving I found myself getting out of my truck putting on my ear phones so I could continue to listen because it's har to find a good break point.

Historia
Seth Hubbard is a wealthy man dying of lung cancer. He trusts no one. Before he hangs himself from a sycamore tree, Hubbard leaves a new, handwritten, will. It is an act that drags his adult children, his Black maid, and Jake into a conflict as riveting and dramatic as the murder trial that made Brigance one of Ford County's most notorious citizens, just three years earlier. The second will raises far more questions than it answers. Why would Hubbard leave nearly all of his fortune to his maid? Had chemotherapy and painkillers affected his ability to think clearly?

Historia
On the right side of the law. Sort of. Sebastian Rudd is not your typical street lawyer. He works out of a customized bulletproof van, complete with Wi-Fi, a bar, a small fridge, fine leather chairs, a hidden gun compartment, and a heavily armed driver. He has no firm, no partners, no associates, and only one employee: his driver, who's also his bodyguard, law clerk, confidant, and golf caddy.

Another Grisham great
Revisado: 05-23-16
I have never been disappointed by a John Grisham book after listening to this one I can say I am still not disappointed. The story has just the right amount of everything mystery, danger, personal problems for the main character as it pieces together the complete story. I must also add that I was very happy with the narration by Mark Deakins and will look for other books read by him as he did a excellent job.
