A great world but annoying hero
Revisado: 02-09-25
The author has done great job of bringing a DND like world to life, and it's enjoyable to explore. I like a lot of the characters, the magic system, it's mostly pretty cool. However this series is also notable for a strangely annoying main character. Jason's SJW statements, wokeness, repeated 2 minute long better than though rants get to be a bit much. I've found myself skipping over parts. For me it's a detraction and as Jason is already naturally annoying sometimes it's just a bit too much. It's a artificial world that the author has the main character giving rants to made people that doesn't really push the story along. So honestly I'm not sure I'll continue the series.

The galaxy is doomed. Monkeys may be clever and too stubborn to give up, but Skippy The Idiot Who Got Played knows the harsh truth: this is a fight he can’t win. The odds are not only stacked against him, he was designed not to win this fight. Maybe he can salvage some faint memory of the civilizations that inhabit the galaxy, but those beings are doomed. Doomed. Including the Merry Band of Pirates.

Historia
You may be surprised to learn that microchips are the new oil—the scarce resource on which the modern world depends. Today, military, economic, and geopolitical power are built on a foundation of computer chips. Virtually everything—from missiles to microwaves—runs on chips, including cars, smartphones, the stock market, even the electric grid. Until recently, America designed and built the fastest chips and maintained its lead as the #1 superpower, but America’s edge is in danger of slipping, undermined by players in Taiwan, Korea, and Europe taking over manufacturing.

A Work of Art

If you read this book you will understand what a microchips really are, their significance for society, have a great understanding of their enormously complex supply chains, and how this all effects today's geopolitics. It's a work of art.

Historia
Nine hundred light-years from home, Major Andrew Grayson and the crew of NACS Washington are marooned in a sunless system with limited water, reactor fuel, and food. The last hope for survival is to go where nothing human has gone before. After embarking on a scouting mission to the only moon with surface signs of life, Andrew and his Special Tactics Team make two startling discoveries. One is a dream: a form of protein and plant life that could save the starving humans in the rogue system. The second is a nightmare: this harvested rock is infested with Lankies.

Historia
For thousands of years, there has been a cycle: a Demon King rises and conquers, and a Hero is reborn a hundred years later to defeat him. Each time, civilizations are ground to dust beneath the Demon King's hordes, but humanity has remained secure in the belief that a Hero of legend will always save them. There's just one slight problem. It's only been 23 years since the Demon King's latest rise, and this time, he's already conquered more than half the world. If humanity simply waits for the Hero's return, there may be no world left for him to save.

The problem with lying about having a super weapon is that the bad guys might believe they have nothing to lose by doing something stupid that both sides will regret. Or, they might just call your bluff. Either way, the Merry Band of Pirates need a plan to deal with the Fallout.

I'm glad I got this book
Revisado: 10-08-21
This was a enlightening book. I learned about slavery in school. However this a much more narrow, personal, and detailed view point. It helped show the day the day for a slave during Southern American slavery times. Glad I picked it. Also, the narrator is very good.

Historia
I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries.

Not for me
Revisado: 01-10-21
I listened to over an hour. Then I returned this book because it lacks substance. This is the second book I have ever returned.
McConaughey gets points for narration, with his well known voice. But thats about it. He doesn't say anything very meaningful or profound. It's just his take (green lights) on events in his life. I found myself disagreeing on his perspective on these events. Some stuff did not really sound like good advice. But I guess we all pick and choose what we like. Also the tales are grandiose, feel a little like tall tales. But perhaps that is just the style he likes. I think for sharing a perspective and playbook for life you shouldn't need that. It just doesn't feel genuine.
Overall, I didn't hear anything of value. Just a story teller giving a perspective on his own story. I think if you are a fan, maybe a big one, then this is a good book for you. If you searching for something more then look elsewhere.

Very Educational
Revisado: 01-08-21
Definitely enjoyed the book. I do feel the last quarter of book was difficult to get through. The author over explains and gives repeated examples to prove his point. However he must do this to support his views. O feel I have a much better grasp of pre-history and why events played out as the did which is very nice.
