Counterintuitive and brilliant
Revisado: 03-07-24
Counterintuitive way of ordering life to find joy and meaning, even when doing difficult tasks. His approach allows us to understand that self-care is the foundation for being better at everything we do – for ourselves and for others. His approach to non-guilt fun is on point.

Random collection of thoughts
Revisado: 02-25-23
I would have enjoyed this collection a lot more hadn’t been organized in some kind of way that made sense. Not only were the individual presentations/chapters randomly organized, but the speakers themselves did not seem to have a great deal of organization in their presentations, either. There was a lot of good information, but the presentation made it difficult to find.

Complex but enjoyable
Revisado: 02-14-23
I am neither a reader of historical fiction nor of the Nazi regime, yet I enjoyed getting caught up in the storyline. It was a very complex plot line that sometimes caused me confusion, but I enjoyed the development of the six sentinels. There were times it seemed to move too fast and times it seemed to move too slowly, but the complexities of the time, geography, and character development caused some confusion throughout. Having said that, I enjoyed it, and got caught up in the six characters.

I love Bishop’s style and approach, and I think he has a great message to share about personal self development. However, this book seems to be the same message as. Unfu*k Yourself from only a slightly different approach.

A balanced practical approach
Revisado: 12-29-22
This book is a great practical approach to minimalism undergirded with a great philosophy of life together. I’ve come across several books one minimalism that seemed to focus heavily on the reason for being a minimalist. I understand that, but I was really enthralled by a room by room approach to the practical steps needed to approach minimalism. At the same time, this book was flexible enough to allow the reader to apply it in their own specific situation, and within their own boundaries. I highly recommend this read for those who are considering downsizing the stuff we acquire in our lives.

Profound in some places, shallow in others
Revisado: 10-11-22
The early chapters of the book had me taking notes and repeating chapters because I was enthralled by the way the author organized his thoughts and learning. Around the fifth chapter, it seemed ti become more and more shallow, taking timeless truths and bending them into a more narrow Christian worldview and a selfish reason for understanding the “meaning of life,” which seemed to more more about self satisfaction than a greater good.
All that considered, the first several chapters were phenomenal, and I plan to return to them frequently.

He has interviewed serial killers and been in the line of fire. But the most terrifying moment of his life didn't occur on the job - it occurred at home, when his 18-year-old daughter asked, "How would you feel about running a marathon with me?"

Inspirational. Now what?
Revisado: 09-25-22
I thought the book was over when he finished the marathon, and at that point, I thought it was a beautiful story about a father and his daughter embarking on a challenge. Then I realized it was only about a third of the way through the book. From that point on the hook had been sunk.
I have been on a journey for many years now, and recently reached a point in which I knew I wanted to make even deeper changes. I struggled with what my options are, because I based largely on my past. So my challenge was envisioning a future that was untethered by my past. Limitless choices.
This book pushed me over the edge of seeing possibilities that are truly endless and life changes that are phenomenal. I have been truly inspired by this journey, and now I have no idea what is next. Truly exciting and exhilarating.

Historia
"My father had more than 50 children." So begins the haunting memoir of Anna LeBaron, daughter of the notorious polygamist and murderer Ervil LeBaron. With her father wanted by the FBI for killing anyone who tried to leave his cult - a radical branch of Mormonism - Anna and her siblings were constantly on the run with the other sister-wives. Often starving and always desperate, the children lived in terror. Even though there were dozens of them together, Anna always felt alone.

Insight to emotional damage from cult life
Revisado: 09-05-22
I found this drawing me into keep listening almost all the way though. I perceived a substitution of evangelical Christianity for her cult religion, and that disappointed me. It didn’t seem to truly address the psychological damage, but simply masked it in a more acceptable way. Her comment about “God’s perfect timing” seemed to gloss over all the failures of people close to her.
Having said that, the overall story is deeply moving, and I was especially stick by the people who influenced her life in a positive, healthy way. She acknowledges the power they had even when they didn’t know her situation, and that emphasizes the impact everyone can have on other people when they focus on strengths and potential of others.

The book I’ve been looking for
Revisado: 07-20-22
I have been looking for a book like this for a couple of years. In my quest to find good work on relationship based sales, I have run across people who put the emphasis on building rapport at the front end, following up for referrals on the backend, and building the presentation on value. However, nothing seems to fit the bill of relationship based sales. Until now.
