Amusing story of the Trump Years

A very biting work on some key characters throughout the Trump presidency. Brings to light some of the characters and their metamorphosis in some ways, all sharing an enormous hubris. The work illustrates well the game in Washington and how to excel at it, additionally the addicting nature of it. Mostly, the wry storytelling frames the story from behind the scenes of recent years.

Eye Opening Read

An absolute masterclass of work from Mr. Onishi. Great context provided through and avoids bias. The work goes into fine detail to the beginnings in Orange County in the 50s to Goldwater’s campaign and the remarkable changes that have transpired since then. It’s a fascinating tale to tell with ominous signs for the future. Regardless of your politics, it is worth a listen or read just for the sheer context on a murky subject.

Relatable humble story from Larry Hogan

Former Governor Hogan always seemed as a very down to Earth guy. The quintessential “have a beer with the voter” type. This book is very that, straight shooting on real issues Americans face and how a regular governor did his best to tackle the challenges of the office and be the guy people elected. Sorely lacking in our festering political climate of left v right currently. Gov. Hogan has some self deprecating, some captivating moments in his political and personal life’s. I would recommend to those to want to believe in just a regular politician working to help ordinary Americans with the challenges we all face. Mr. Hogan could care less about making a brand, he set out to help the Maryland people and then went onto his next challenge.

18 months ago but STILL relevant

This is a topic, Brian Cashman and his fanboys that has aggravated me for years. This takes place pre 2022, why does Cashman always get a past with the Yanks? I sit here in August of 23, the team is barely above water. Has played .500 ball for the past 200 games or so. Fans across the Yankee spectrum are finally starting to wake up and realize the problem, Cashman! Yet still, defenders persist. “He’s a HOF GM, we’d be worse without him.” I’m writing this review for any of my fellow fans here and now that are looking to dial into a lesser known source filled with quality information on a topic that is driving us insane now and needed to be changed years ago.

This is my second time through this piece. Second time was even better. Ronan is a gifted story teller but cuts at the heart of what has plagued American diplomacy. Great stories of George Packer and many other instances put you right in the middle of the State Department. Mr. Farrow makes some great conclusions about where diplomacy and our diplomats are in this current time.

Ms. Hemmer does a great job at illustrating the shift in Reagan style Republicans to Trump Republicans. It’s told by in depth background dives of in the know information for the last 40+ years. Getting to know the differences from the more polite politics of the Reagan years to the volatile politics of the last decade and the key players like Rush, Newt, Buchanan, and others who drove the metamorphosis. All in all, this a must read/listen to for anyone regardless of your politics through a historical lens. I hope for Ms Hemmer’s next act, she does a dive into the evolution from Ike/Nixon to Reagan.

Informative still in 2023

Still, a poignant exploratory tale about the 2016 election and how middle America is sometimes forgotten. Whatever your politics are, this work is informative in a way where others are not. In the individual chapter interviews you really can understand why people felt neglected and turned their vote towards President Trump.
