Historia
Nicholas “Foxy” Foxton, a former jockey who suffered a career-ending injury, is out for a day at the Grand National races when his friend and coworker Herb Kovak is murdered, execution style, right in front of him—and 60,000 other potential witnesses. Foxton and Kovak were both independent financial advisers at Lyall Black, a firm specializing in extreme-risk investments.

Painfully dull performance obscures this book’s drama.

I am a dedicated fan of Dick Francis stories, so I do not like to write this negative review. However, this book was ill served by the narrator and performance editor. The emotionally flat reading was quite painful to listen to as its monotonous tone severely conflicted with the feelings and action of the story.

Historia
From the New York Times best-selling author of Christmas Jars comes a powerful story of friendship and faith. Marva Ferguson has a very personal Christmas tradition that happens the day after Christmas. As a widow, the tradition means more to her now than it ever did. Her newest neighbor, nine-year-old Charlee, loves Christmas, too. But her family has fallen on hard times, and things get worse when Charlee becomes critically ill.

Good story until the over-preachy conclusion☹️
Revisado: 12-26-22
What I liked: 🎄That friendship knows no age; the support of friends and family can aid one in surmounting the toughest challenges; and magic happens during Christmastide🎄
What I disliked: 🔆That the author doesn’t know that the Twelve Days of Christmas starts on Christmas and ends on epiphany (5-6 of January) with the arrival of the Three Kings. This simple observation spreads the joy of Christmas over twelve days, instead of packing it into a single stressful day. While I suspect the author adapted the twelve days to fit the needs of the sick child (no problem there), he made the mistake that commerce does, in failing to understand when these dates actually fall ~ The Advent’s 25 days are separate from the Twelve Days of Christmastide🎄
I was also disappointed by the cloying ending, which seemingly departed from the story and became an sermon. The faith of the characters was evident in their deeds and the ending could have been more lyrical and less self-righteous.
