Historia
In The Case of the Case of Kilcladdich, golden-age gadabout Anty Boisjoly travels to the timeless source waters of Glen Glennegie to help decide the fate of his family’s favourite ferment, but an impossible locked room murder is only one of a multitude of mysteries that try Anty’s wits and witticisms to their northern limit. Time trickles down on the traditional tipple as Anty unravels family feuds, ruptured romance, shepherdless sheep, and a series of suspiciously surfacing secrets to sort out who killed whom and how and why and who might be next to die.

awesome performance by Tim Bruce
Revisado: 09-25-24
Bruce's performance enhanced this story of greed, broken hearts, murder, whisky and golf. The action takes place in a small village in Scotland, and Bruce created different voices for each of the characters, not just the English ones. Highly recommended

It all sounds simple enough as Phryne sets new investigations into motion. But when greed and fear are the motivating factors, people become ruthless and Phyrne quickly finds herself enmeshed in blackmail, secrets, lies and the dangerous influences of deep magic.

Gross, violent, unpleasant
Revisado: 09-10-24
What a difference from the TV show. This Phyrne is unpleasant, uses people, engages in some gross acts, and is not fun, The audiobook was a big disappointment, though the voice acting was good, it could not save this grim tale.

Historia
Christmas, 1930. An exiled Balkan king, living incognito in rural Suffolk, is shot dead in his secluded mansion following a meeting with the local vicar, Reverend Lucian Shaw. Special Branch detectives are soon on the trail of sinister agents of a foreign power that they think are responsible, but Shaw begins to realize that the culprit could be much closer to home. Observation, cogitation, meditation, and prayer lead him down a dangerous road toward a desperate killer who will stop at nothing to evade capture.

Excellent voice acting
Revisado: 07-30-24
While I did guess, early on, who the villain was, I enjoyed the book as read here. The Rev. Shaw books are set in the 1930's, and are about the journey, rather than deduction. I also like the occasional reference to hymns which sometimes act as clues for Shaw. Finally the voice acting is really well done with a clear, different voice for each character.

Historia
In the Welsh borders, isolated by heavy snow and flooding from the thaw, cut off from telephone access, a tragedy has occurred. Old Dr Robinson known to be 'a menace' on the roads has met his end in a car crash, his big saloon thrown from the track down the steep hillside. But when the police arrive there is more to the tragedy than meets the eye: why was there a second body - an outsider to these parts - in the back of the vehicle?

multiple motives for murder in flood
Revisado: 06-28-24
The author took her time to develop a sense of place, secrets, suspicions, and motives for each suspect. Escape to the hills and let this beautifully read book take you to a long ago isolated English hamlet where all is not what it seems. highly recommended

Historia
For the staff of the library at the center of The Widening Stain, it's easy enough to dismiss the death of a woman who fell from a rolling ladder as nothing more than an unfortunate accident. It's more difficult, however, to explain away the strangled corpse of a man found inside a locked room, surrounded by rare and obscure erotica.

For the love of books
Revisado: 06-12-24
I loved this bibliophile mystery so much that a third of the way through reading it, I went back, bought the Audible, and listened from the beginning. Since it was written in the early 20th century there are some cringe-inspiring misogynistic moments, but they are part of the plot. Recommended

Historia
May 1912. After the previous year’s deadly heatwave, it’s been an uneventful spring in Littleton Cotterell. Though for Lady Hardcastle and her fiercely loyal lady’s maid Flo, at least there are the provincial delights of the village’s inaugural art exhibition—and bicycle race—to look forward to. But at the exhibition opening, there’s a panicked shout of ‘Fire!’ In the confusion, the main attraction—an extremely expensive book—is stolen from under everyone’s nose, as is a valuable painting lent by Sir Hector Farley-Stroud.

Revisado: 10-11-23
Flo and Lady H once again save the day, unraveling multiple mysteries. While the "who done it " was fairly easy to guess, the ending was so much fun that I had to give 5 stars.

Historia
When Harold Merefield returned home in the early hours of a winter morning from a festive little party at that popular nightclub, the Naxos, he was startled by a gruesome discovery. On his bed was a corpse. There was nothing to show the identity of the dead man or the cause of his death. At the inquest, the jury found a verdict of ‘death from natural causes’ - perhaps they were right, but yet?
