Historia
What if you could transfer your skills directly into the brain of someone who wanted to acquire them? A new technology can advance the human race farther and faster than ever imagined, but instead of being used for the betterment of mankind, it’s being used to turn a massive profit. Alden Heath had been part of this industry for most of his adult life, but when he accidentally finds out a hidden truth behind the technology, he’ll need to expose the conspiracy before the corporation and the world governments protecting it can kill him in order to keep their secret safe.

Engaging and original
Revisado: 11-05-23
This novel offers a unique view of future technology and a method to rapidly expand human knowledge. It is very original in concept with characters that have clear individual personalities and voices. Gustin is a masterful voice actor.
His most recent book, I Talk To Atoms , is even better. Both are well worth your time and attention.

Inventive and original
Revisado: 11-02-23
This is a very satisfying book for fans of classic science fiction. The central character is appealing in his vulnerability and uniqueness. Gustin is wonderful as as a voice actor - each character’s personality and characteristics are distinct and relatable. Truly original story - I read it in one day.

Coming of age, learning to cope
Revisado: 04-27-23
I enjoyed this modern day coming of age story. The characters were well drawn and relatable. The challenging balance between sexual naïveté and irresistible desire created a sweet and precarious tension. I’ll never see a tube of toothpaste again without giggling. A bit redundant when Pudge and the Colonel try to resolve the mystery, but the chapter heading helped to contain their despair. I would recommend it to my upper level high school age children.

Historia
The hero of John Kennedy Toole's incomparable, Pultizer Prize–winning comic classic is one Ignatius J. Reilly, an obese, self-absorbed, hapless Don Quixote of the French Quarter, whose half-hearted attempts at employment lead to a series of wacky adventures among the lower denizens of New Orleans.

Yuk
Revisado: 08-09-20
This broad comedy is a disappointment. There is not a single character that I liked, especially the main character - an Unrelatable buffoon. The reader handled the multiple characters well , each was easy to identify with quick transitions between the voices. Parts of the story were repetitive and tedious. Black characters were portrayed as reckless idiots. If I owned this in paper copy I would throw it away rather than donate it to Goodwill.

Historia
The Goldfinch is a haunted odyssey through present-day America and a drama of enthralling force and acuity. It begins with a boy. Theo Decker, a 13-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don't know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his unbearable longing for his mother, he clings to one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.

Art lovers will understand
Revisado: 10-31-19
The author fills this tale with vivid imagery, tangible characters and a series of complex overlapping social circles. This makes it rather long - I enjoyed it best in short sessions when I could savor the descriptions. David Putty’s reading was wonderful. He captured a broad range of characters with unwavering characterizations.

Historia
During his years in a neural-health facility, Pat Peoples has formulated a theory about silver linings. He believes that his life is a movie produced by God, that his mission is to become physically fit and emotionally supportive, and that if he succeeds, his happy ending will be the return of his estranged wife, Nikki. When Pat goes to live with his parents, everything seems changed: no one will talk to him about Nikki, and his new therapist seems to be recommending adultery as a form of therapy.

Quirky and compelling
Revisado: 08-15-18
Unless you have experienced it, the self-involved labyrinth of mental illness might seem impossible to know. But the author has captured the twisted path of recovery from brain damage and pathological frustration to near normal resolution with amazing compassion and humor. Framing the main characters recovery within the passions of Eagles football fandom brings together all the shredded threads of Pat’s life as he pursues the silver linings to his dark history. I read it in 2 days, unable to stay away from this most engaging story. Much better than the movie, it is told entirely through internal dialogue.

Confusing
Revisado: 08-11-18
Claire North’ book generally delight me. I am intrigued with the questions they raise about identity, reality and time. This book follows in the same vein, using quick cuts back and forth in the story line frequently. Unfortunately this becomes rather confusing and interrupts the overall flow of the tale. The cultural setting is a future country beset with turmoil, greed, and devalued life. It is depressing, and offers no real resolution for the characters or their world.
