Don’t Summarize Conversations

Their book premise is good. It could have been great, but the author spends way too much time summarizing things that would either be better just shown happening or left out altogether. If a conversation is important, don’t make it a summary, actually put the conversation in the book. The exciting parts about the creepers and the chaos were glossed over with summary too. Similarly, the narrator is boring. I can’t pinpoint exactly what I don’t like about her. I think she puts emphasis in the wrong places sometimes, or she uses a weird lilt, I’m not completely sure, but it drives me crazy and is boring to listen to.

Could have been great. Poor execution in story and narration made it not worth the time.

Rapey or at least Creepy

I was hoping for hot Highlanders and what we get it spoiled trust fund brats. The second it was implied that the guys rigged the contest to lure an unsuspecting woman to their remote Castle with the intent on seducing her, I was over it. It didn’t help that the 30 year olds were acting more like teenagers, bemoaning having to help their sister set up for the book convention, because they have hired help for that, or calling each other “dude.” It was all just gross. Women read books set it Scotland with Scottish men as the main character for a certain rugged independent manly type of character and these guys may or may not have fit the physical bill (only ever described as “hot”) but the author missed the boat on the personality type. I barely started this book and don’t think I will be finishing it. Hope I can get my money back.

Exactly what a romance should be

I love everything about this book. The story is amazing. The narration is perfect. Those accents make me melt. The pacing is perfect. There is just the right amount of action and suspense. And can’t forget the HEA.

After so many disappointments lately (not from this author but other books I’ve read) listening to this one was exactly what I needed to not give up on the genre. My only complaint is that they never revisited the predator/prey kink.

Great Story Ruined by Bad Narrator

The story is good. Just what I like, though I would have enjoyed seeing the nerdy librarian role played up a bit more, overall it was good. The female narrator was great. She did a good job with the voices and I enjoyed her parts. The male narrator made my skin crawl. His voice was a bit nasally and had a lisp and then when he tried to talk dirty at one point it just came out sleazy and definitely NOT hot. Idk what they were thinking with this guy. Terrible choice.

So overall good, but maybe read instead of listen to and I’m going to avoid books narrated by Curt Bonnem going forward.

Mediocre

The performance was good, especially the female narrator. The story line and plot was good. The execution of that story wasn’t great. Even though there was a happy ending it still felt unsatisfactory. There was too much talk about the semantics of the relationship and not enough emotional payoff. I’m not reading a book to get negotiations about who sleeps where, I’m reading to feel something and it’s just fell flat at the end.

Did Not Finish

Did not finish the story. I don’t know if it was just the narrator or the story itself, but I was so bored and frustrated with it. The plot moves at a glacial pace, if there even is an actual plot. The budding romance takes to long to bloom and the characters are uninspiring. I think it could have been great, but it just wasn’t.

ended better than it started

I was very concerned this was going to suck up until about the end, thankfully the author was able to turn it around. It wasn't the best book in this genre with this trope I've read, but it wasn't the worst either. Hopefully, the author did better on the rest of the series.

Amazing

Evangeline Anderson delivers again with this amazing YA novel. Like all of her novels, love is the center of attention, but themes of women's empowerment, loyalty, abuse, bullying, and learning to see the person inside are explored in a futuristic space-faring society that is divided firmly by gender. Unlike her other novels, Anderson kept this PG-13 and appropriate for teens. Excellent read.
