Historia
When I found an eviction notice taped on my apartment door, I had two options: find a comfortable cardboard box to call home, or move in with Tucker Jameson. Seeing that cardboard makes me feel itchy, I chose the latter. Which shouldn't be that big of a deal since Tucker is one of my good friends. And because he's still pining after his ex-girlfriend and I'm trying to finish my nursing degree, there is nothing to worry about in the romance department, making my last semester an easy one to conquer. Boy, was I wrong.

Narration almost turned me off
Revisado: 04-23-25
The male narrator was terrible. The cadence was off and the voices of the character’s he did were cringey. Terrible.

The echo I’m memories was awful. Otherwise loved the performance and turning out to be my favorite of the series.

wonderful journey
Revisado: 10-29-19
I wasn't sure about it at first but once you accept the narrators voice as that of the story then you're off. It never went where I expected but then I would find myself in the "ah, of course" moments and those are what make a good story part of your own. I went in reverse order, reading 'The Gentleman in Moscow' first , which yes, was better but different. wonder once again I might just read another book Amor Towles .

Historia
Germany, 1943. Rosa Sauer’s parents are gone, and her husband, Gregor, is far away, fighting on the front lines of WWII. Alone, she has little choice but to leave war-torn Berlin behind and live with her in-laws in a village near the Wolfschanze, the Wolf’s Lair, Hitler’s hidden headquarters. Convinced the enemy wants to poison him, Hitler conscripts 10 women, including Rosa, to be his food tasters. Even though food is a luxury, eating the decadent feasts Hitler will soon be served is an act of torture - after each meal, the women must wait an hour to see if they will die.

wonderful.
Revisado: 03-07-19
narrator was hard at first but she turned out to be perfection for the story. I got lost a bit at the end and felt a rush to the finish line. it was a different style than the whole book had been but overall it was a great read and I was just engulfed by the story and the historical aspect to it made me more curious about them, their lives, that time, Hitler, the people during the war, the times around the war and to be honest it has sparked some interesting conversations. wonderful.

still hooked
Revisado: 11-30-18
I thought I was going to hate the second book bc it starts off doing exactly the opposite of what I liked about the first book; it didn't stop the storyline to explain things. once you get past those first few chapters of recap and such then it's back into the story and drags you back in! I'm ready for the third.

unexpected
Revisado: 10-12-18
Hesitant at first to read the series but when a friend recommended it as "sci fi murder gossip girl" I had to find out what she was talking about. I am glad I did, it was a quick and easy listen and once you get past the robotic, weirdness of the narrator and look past some of the poor performance of characters reactions or responses it's a good listen. I like the fast pace to it, the unraveling of characters and simultaneously entwining other story lines unknowingly to them was great. I know it is a trilogy so that makes more sense as to why the ending felt so fast and final but I can't wait to see if it continues through the series.

The morning of her niece's wedding, Margo Just drinks a double martini and contemplates the many mistakes she's made in her fifty-odd years of life. Spending three decades in love with a wonderful but unattainable man is pretty high up on her list of missteps, as is a long line of unsuccessful love affairs accompanied by a seemingly endless supply of delicious cocktails.
